Chapter Seven: Unfathomable Thoughts
In a VIP hospital room nearly a hundred square meters in size, two women lay separately on two large white beds. One was named Ling Xueqin, the other Xue Yiyi. Beside each of them was a small crib where two babies slept quietly.
Because of their fathers’ connections, the two women had been close friends since childhood and had promised to have children together. Remarkably, that promise came true. Although Xue Yiyi had become pregnant half a month before Ling Xueqin, she gave birth five minutes later.
The three families thought it would be good for the expectant mothers to have someone to talk to and watch out for each other, preventing any depression or loneliness. So they specially arranged this unique double VIP room for the two of them.
Outside the room, the families gathered quietly in the next room, listening to Cai Dacheng, director of the Longcheng Public Security Bureau, nervously reporting, sweat pouring down his forehead. Three prominent figures of Longcheng had nearly been attacked on their own turf. Life wouldn’t be easy for him going forward…
“Report, Chairman. Our investigation team found that these terrorists were tourists who came to Longcheng last month. Their IDs were all fake. And it seems the two nurses aren’t even from this country,” Cai Dacheng reported carefully, despite his anxiety.
“Very well. For the next few days, have your men guard this place closely. No more incidents. I’ll handle the rest,” Xiao Jie said, frowning. He didn’t want to make things difficult for Cai Dacheng—after all, he was from his father’s own faction. Training a capital city police chief wasn’t easy. Besides, today’s incident was complicated. Why would those two nurses choose to assassinate babies inside rather than targeting the older or younger generation? His own wife and child had nearly been harmed…
“Chairman, I…” Although Xiao Jie had spoken, the families shared one voice. He was already relieved, but how he was dealt with was up to the chairman. Having reached the position of capital police chief, he naturally understood the gravity of the matter and the need for respect.
“Go attend to your duties,” Xiao Yunting waved dismissively.
“Doctor, how are Xueqin and Yiyi?” Ling Feilong opened the door and invited the waiting hospital director in.
After greeting the doctor, Cai Dacheng left.
“Both ladies and their babies are safe,” the director said, handing Ling Feilong two health reports.
“Haha, my daughter gave birth to a son. Yunting, your Yiyi had a daughter. Don’t suppose your words just now still count?” Ling Feilong laughed heartily, trying to ease the tension caused by the assassination attempt.
Xiao Yunting, like a child, snatched the health reports of Yiyi and her baby from Ling Feilong and studied them carefully. When he saw the infant’s check-up sheet, a tender smile appeared on his face.

“What’s the matter, Old Xiao? You’re not trying to renege on your bet, are you?” Sun Wenchong caught Ling Feilong’s glance and immediately caught on, teasing Xiao Yunting provocatively.
Sun Yi and Xiao Jie, the biological fathers of the children, exchanged bitter smiles. At this moment, they cared little whether their children were boys or girls, or if they’d eventually become a couple. They just wanted to see their beloved wives, who had just endured the pains of childbirth and now lay unconscious, and their babies they had yet to meet.
“It doesn’t matter, anything is fine. As long as the children are willing when they grow up. Let’s hurry inside to see our daughters-in-law and grandchildren,” Xiao Yunting said with a smooth smile. His words left room for possibility—if the children were willing in the future; if not…
Sun Wenchong and Ling Feilong said no more. Jokes aside, the friendship among the three families had passed down from their generation to their children’s. The grandchildren’s fates would be left to destiny.
The future—no one could have predicted it.
With the elders speaking, Sun Yi and Xiao Jie, who had been anxiously waiting at the door, quickly opened it and rushed into their wives’ rooms.
Three days later, in the VIP ward, Sun Yi was with Ling Xueqin and their son, while Xiao Jie stayed with Xue Yiyi and their daughter.
“Xueqin, your son is really well-behaved. Three days have passed, and he only cried at birth. The rest of the time he’s been quiet—not like our little Xuanxuan, crying nonstop. Has he disturbed you?” Xue Yiyi smiled, accepting the fruit Xiao Jie had cut for her.
“Xuanxuan? You’ve already named your child?” Xueqin gently stroked her son’s little face and asked softly.
“Yes, we named her Xiao Yuxuan. Isn’t it lovely?”
“Not yet. Yi, what should we name our son?” Ling Xueqin blinked, seeking Sun Yi’s opinion.
“I haven’t thought of a name either. Xiao Jie, do you have any ideas? Something we could use as a reference. Don’t say you knew from the start it would be a girl,” Sun Yi appealed to Xiao Jie.
Since Ling Xueqin’s pregnancy began, Sun Yi had worried about her health. She was often exhausted, busy with city affairs, and didn’t have time to think of names for the child. His father, Sun Wenchong, had suggested many names, but they all sounded a bit too… patriotic: “Guard the Nation,” “For the People,” “Build…”

“Of course we have some. But since Yiyi prefers girls, we thought of more girl names. If it’s a boy, we plan to call him Xiao Tianyi. How does that sound? Handsome enough?” Xiao Jie looked up at Sun Yi.
“Tianyi?”
“Not ‘fate,’ but ‘yi’ — meaning leisure, elegance.”
“Really ‘Tianyi’…”
“What does that mean?”
“Remember that sacred stone?”
“That monkey stone!”
“Yes!”
“Truly incredible.”
“Well, then let’s call him Siyu.”
“Siyu, Sun Siyu. Not bad.”
“Baby, from now on you’ll be called Sun Siyu.”
“Sun Siyu.”
