Chapter 4: Transmigration 3

“From now on, answer only what I ask. Do not utter another useless word!”
The coldness in her gaze made Cuier shiver inwardly, and she hurriedly nodded in assent.
“What is my name?”
“Yu Qingyan.”
The name sounded like something fit for a refined young lady of a noble household. Recalling the brief glimpse she had once had of her, it was indeed a name well suited to her. As for herself, she still suited the name Shao the best.
“Where is this?”
Cuier looked uneasily at Yu Qingyan on the bed. “Miss...”
Yu Qingyan’s eyes sharpened. “Less nonsense!”
With a thud, Cuier dropped to her knees, choking back tears as she answered, “Yes! This is the imperial palace.”
The imperial palace? Yu Qingyan curled her lip and glanced around. This was the abandoned palace, wasn’t it?
“What happened?”
“It was...”
“What do you mean, it was? Why am I lying here?”

“It was the guards outside who beat you.” Remembering what had happened that day, Cuier’s tears fell again. “Miss, it is truly wonderful that you are awake, Miss...”
It took nearly an hour before Yu Qingyan finally understood her present situation.
So the person the original owner of this body wanted her to deal with was the emperor? And not simply kill him, either, but make him wish for death and yet be unable to die. What a difficult task. After all, she had originally been an assassin!
Never mind. Even if it took ten or twenty years to accomplish, as long as she could keep her life, it would not be a loss.
“Mi-miss...” Cuier sat on the edge of the chair as if on pins and needles, wanting to rise but not daring to.
On the bed, Yu Qingyan had a bandage wrapped around her forehead. She closed her eyes and leaned against the headboard. “Be quiet.”
Cuier truly did not make another sound. Yu Qingyan thought about the road ahead. This was the imperial palace. She had just taken a look around; this body was utterly hopeless. Let alone walking out of the palace, even getting out of this courtyard would be difficult.
Besides, if the person she was to deal with was the emperor, perhaps staying here was for the best.
For now, she should heal her body first. The road ahead was long, but now that she had a goal, at least she would not be bored.
With that thought, Yu Qingyan curved her lips into a faint smile.
Cuier swallowed nervously, cold sweat breaking out over her body, her hands and feet icy. The miss had awakened, yes, but somehow she seemed like a completely different person. Could it be... that she had been possessed?
Yu Qingyan swung her legs off the bed. Cuier sprang to her feet at once. “Miss—”
“Who told you to stand up!”
Cuier quickly sat back down. “Cuier knows she was wrong.”

Yu Qingyan shook her head. Not only was this girl timid and fond of crying, she was also rather foolish.
“I’m hungry. Aren’t you hungry too?”
Cuier froze, then her tears once again burst forth. “Cuier will go fetch something to eat right away. Miss, please wait.”
Yu Qingyan got out of bed and pushed open the window to look outside. Beyond it was a vast white expanse, with nothing at all except two bare trees buried under snow. It was truly a place where even the cries of people and birds were cut off entirely.
Unconsciously, she touched the ring on her index finger. Whether by coincidence or not, when she awoke she discovered that this ring had appeared on her finger, and it was the very one she had worn before.
“Miss—”
Yu Qingyan looked at Cuier. “Come in. What are you standing there for?”
Cuier placed the two steamed buns in her hands on the table and wiped away her tears. “Miss, please make do with these for now. This servant will think of a way.”
“What way could you possibly think of?” Yu Qingyan reached out and picked up one of the buns. “Do you have any hot water?”
“Yes! It will be boiling very soon.” Cuier answered hastily, then closed the window. “Miss has just woken up; how can you be exposed to the wind? Hurry and sit down. This servant will fetch the hot water.”
Not long after, Cuier came in carrying a bowl of hot water. Yu Qingyan looked over.
“Go and bring another bowl.”
