Now, Qiu Yiyao dared not touch him at all, tears streaming down her face as she muttered, "I only came for a summer vacation, and yet all this has happened? Boohoo…"

Bai Peiyu suddenly felt a surge of compassion and wanted to comfort her. He opened his mouth but said nothing.

He sighed and motioned for Qiu Yiyao to help him lean against the wall and sit down.

"You… don’t do anything. I’m… fine."

Bai Peiyu took the phone from Qiu Yiyao, powered it off, and threw it forcefully aside.

Then he rested his head against the wall and closed his eyes.

Seeing his pale cheeks and lips, Qiu Yiyao’s heart was deeply moved.

The man who had argued with her all day and found fault with her at every turn now looked like a lone wolf approaching the end of his life.

Yet there was no trace of fear on his face—he accepted death with calmness.

Though she usually despised him, at this moment she genuinely admired him.

Qiu Yiyao looked down at the bloodstains on the ground and struggled to steady her emotions.

“I learned some emergency first aid in the club. Let me see your wound.”

Bai Peiyu slowly opened his eyes and studied her carefully.

This was the first time since they met that he looked at her so seriously.

Qiu Yiyao waited quietly for his response.

Two minutes passed before Bai Peiyu nodded slightly.

He painfully turned his back to her. Qiu Yiyao took a deep breath and gently lifted the back of his shirt.

Though prepared, she was still shocked by the wound.

Just above his lower back, the fresh blood had soaked through the gauze.

The metallic scent of blood hit her nostrils. She rubbed her nose to hold back the discomfort and whispered, “I’ll go get the medical kit.”

The kit was in the living room cabinet downstairs. Qiu Yiyao retrieved it in under a minute and hurried back.

She removed the gauze, revealing a wound that made her stomach churn. It looked as if a chunk of flesh had been carved out. She had no idea what kind of weapon could cause such damage, but she imagined the pain must have been unbearable.

Qiu Yiyao sprayed disinfectant carefully onto the wound. Bai Peiyu, whose eyes had been half-closed, tensed up with pain, his entire body stiffening, and sweat pouring down his forehead.

“Almost done, just a little longer.”

Qiu Yiyao’s heart raced. She had only studied theory and practiced occasionally on mannequins in the club. This was her first time bandaging a real person.

Her hands trembled slightly, and fearing Bai Peiyu would mock her, she slapped her own hand hard.

After disinfecting, she wrapped the gauze firmly.

Throughout the process, Bai Peiyu clenched his teeth and endured silently.

By the time she finished, Qiu Yiyao was drenched in sweat.

Bai Peiyu lay on the bed, his head turned toward the wall, motionless.

Qiu Yiyao didn’t dare leave and sat by the window to keep him company.

“Besides your parents, is there anyone you care about?”

Bai Peiyu’s sudden question startled her. She thought seriously before replying, “Not yet, but there willI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
