Chapter 11: A Father and Son’s Midnight Conversation
[Understood, Mother. There’s one more thing—there have been outsiders around today, so I can’t say much. Father Beast contacted me; he said he’ll come find us as soon as possible and told me to watch over you carefully.]
Upon hearing Chier’s words, Qi Yue wondered if they would soon see that beastman. Perhaps Chier’s problem could be resolved sooner. “How did you contact him? When did this happen?”
[Last night, after you fell unconscious from the fever, Father Beast suddenly reached out to me. From what he said, it seemed like bloodline telepathy.]
“Did he say when he would arrive?” Qi Yue asked.
[No, he didn’t specify. It sounded like he still had some matters to settle. He only said he would come to us as soon as he could.]
“Did you say anything else?” Qi Yue pressed.
[Just that Father Beast asked about your health and reminded me to watch over you. Mother, I didn’t tell him about your disguise. Should we test Father Beast when he comes? See if he judges by appearances like other beastmen?]
“That’s not a bad idea. But whether he judges by looks doesn’t really concern us; it was just an accident at the time,” Qi Yue replied, not worrying much about the beastman’s thoughts.
[So, Mother, do you intend to accept Father Beast? To live together with him?]
“I don’t know him well; I’ve known him less than a day. He’s still a stranger to me, and it’s possible he already has a partner,” Qi Yue yawned as she spoke.
[Are you sleepy now? Can you fall asleep?]
“Yes, Mother is truly tired today; of course I can sleep. Go to sleep; tomorrow we’ll visit the Mulberry Forest.” Qi Yue closed her eyes, though her mind was still tangled with recent events.
Chier’s transformation problem remained unresolved, and now they learned he had an internal space. Was this a blessing or a curse? In modern novels about spatial abilities, such power often invites danger. What about in this beast world? Would it be the same? Would their safety be compromised further?
Now there was news of that beastman. How would he view them? What thoughts might he harbor toward mother and son?
Both of them were innocent—should they treat Chier like modern divorced couples do? She had fused with a modern soul; could she still marry a beastman and live as before? The extra knowledge she possessed would surely draw attention. Should she suppress it and endure? Could she hide it truly? Would exposure bring danger?
In this beast world, a lone female could not survive alone. Could she truly accept a beastman? A non-human? Yet her body was a descendant of beastmen, bearing part of their memories and feelings. She was no longer fully human either.
If she had to choose a beastman to live with in the future, she must find one she could trust and who could protect her. After all, having come to this world, shouldn’t she strive for a better life?
As for the beastmen of the Lu Yu tribe, there was no need to consider them. She would never settle there—it would be a lifetime of misery. She understood the helplessness of Father Beast and Mother, but they did not share her secret and suffered unfair treatment in the tribe.
Regarding Chier’s father beast, they would see when they met. If he was single and willing to accept them, they could consider him. He was good-looking, but seemed cold; she didn’t know if their personalities would match.
These were matters for later. The immediate priority was solving Chier’s problem. She didn’t know if the events around her fainting had affected Chier, or how deeply.
Seeing Mother asleep, Chier wanted to contact Father Beast and learn more about his side. He vowed not to let Mother suffer injustice anymore. She was pitiful enough now. If Father Beast could be her support, that would be best.
“Father Beast, can you hear me?” Chier tried to connect.
“Child, what is it?” Feng Yu was about to sleep when he heard his son’s voice in his mind, filling him with joy.
“Father Beast, I have a name now. Mother calls me Chier,” the boy said, displeased at being called “child.”
“Alright, Chier. Has your mother fallen asleep?” Feng Yu smiled faintly, imagining his son’s playful expression.
“Father Beast, Mother just fell asleep. Do you have a partner?” Chier asked directly.
“Oh, Father Beast doesn’t have a partner now.” Feng Yu didn’t understand why Chier asked, but he knew well that the young woman from three years ago had been paired, and her first time was with him. Could her male partner have met with an accident before their union?
“When will you come to find us? Many here bully Mother because she’s an orphan, and no one stands by her. My little arms and legs can’t do much,” Chier spoke simply, believing that Father Beast’s early arrival would lessen Mother’s suffering.
“Father Beast will come as soon as possible. Remember who bullies you; I’ll settle the score when I arrive.” His son’s words confirmed Feng Yu’s suspicions. If the females who bullied them were unmanageable, could he not face their males and brothers? Only his own females and son could he truly discipline.
(The question is whether you’d dare to discipline them? And are you sure they’re truly your females?)
“By the way, is your mother’s health better? You said last night she had a fever.” Remembering his son’s report, Feng Yu grew concerned again.
“She recovered. The fever broke this morning. Mother also dissolved her pairing contract today. What’s that?” Chier didn’t understand the pairing contract but dared not ask Mother, sensing she wouldn’t be pleased.
“Your mother dissolved her pairing contract today?” Feng Yu realized he had been mistaken. Why had that beastman left her alone in a cave after pairing? “Does Chier know how your mother has lived these past years?”
“I heard them say: three years ago, Mother was found in a cave and brought back unconscious. She stayed immersed in the Holy Water Pool and only woke yesterday morning. I hatched only after Mother woke up.” Chier told Feng Yu everything truthfully.
Hearing this, Feng Yu felt a pang of pity. She had been unconscious for so long, likely because of him or Chier. Yet a spark of hope arose—so far, she was the only beastman in her life.
