Luo Yichen’s heart was filled with melancholy as he asked in disappointment, “I’ve waited for you for three years. Isn’t that considered devoted?”

“What you call three years of waiting is nothing but an extramarital affair. Is it fashionable in wealthy circles for men to have mistresses? If I were with you, you’d probably get tired of me after a while and find another target. I’m just an ordinary woman—I can’t withstand such turbulent waves.”

Luo Yichen said sadly, “So, in your heart, I am so despicable, so untrustworthy. Shang Qi, do you know how hurtful your words are? Remember this!”

After saying that, Luo Yichen stormed out.

Watching his retreating figure, tears swiftly fell from Shang Qi’s eyes...

As she wept, Shang Qi recalled the past she shared with Luo Yichen: Three years ago, when she first joined the company, she was tasked with delivering a document to the president’s secretary. She wandered around the top floor for a long time but couldn’t find the secretary. Resigned, she knocked on a door.

There was no response inside. She gently pushed the door open. Inside, she saw a man sitting on the floor, leaning against the sofa. His eyes held indescribable pain, his handsome face unusually despondent. His clothes were disheveled, and he clutched a glass of wine.

Suddenly, Shang Qi remembered—this was President Luo Yichen. Nervously, she said, “Sorry! I’m here to deliver a document to your secretary.”

Luo Yichen’s gaze, full of pain, fell on her. His voice was hoarse as he asked, “Would you give up the one you love for the sake of gain?”

Shang Qi was stunned but instinctively replied, “No.”

“Why not?” His eyes flickered with hope.

“There’s no why. If you can analyze it logically, it’s no longer love.”

Luo Yichen was stunned by her words...

Afterward, Shang Qi’s career soared within the company. When she was promoted to administrative supervisor, her colleagues celebrated with her. Unexpectedly, President Luo himself showed up.

During the party, Shang Qi was heavily encouraged to drink and soon felt dizzy. She stumbled to the restroom and vomited. When she lifted her head, she saw Luo Yichen standing nearby. Shang Qi was startled, almost thinking she had entered the men’s restroom.

She swayed and said, “President Luo, why are you here?”

Luo Yichen’s eyes were full of concern. “I was worried about you, so I came to check.”

His words made Shang Qi blush. She shyly said, “I’m fine, I’ll go back now.”

But Luo Yichen suddenly pulled her into his arms. Shang Qi’s face drained of color as she tried to escape immediately. That’s when she realized the bathroom door was already locked by Luo Yichen. It was public knowledge that the president had been married for three years. How could he treat her this way?

Angrily, Shang Qi said, “Let go! I’m not a woman you can take lightly.”

Luo Yichen held her tighter. The breath of alcohol he exhaled drifted to her nose. His magnetic voice whispered in her ear, “Neither am I a man to be taken lightly.”

Shang Qi struggled fiercely and began to shout. Luo Yichen warned, “If you’re not afraid of others seeing us in the women’s restroom, then keep yelling.”

Shang Qi quickly fell silent, pleading, “President Luo, please let me go! You’re drunk—I’ll help you get back.”

Luo Yichen held her close, feeling a long-lost warmth. He liked this feeling and didn’t want to let go. Shang Qi dared not resist too much, fearing it would provoke him more. Yet Luo Yichen seized the moment, kissing her passionately.

Shang Qi was breathless, nearly fainting from the kiss. After a long while, Luo Yichen released her and said, “I’ve fallen in love with you. Will you be with me?”

“Impossible!” Shang Qi replied without hesitation.

Luo Yichen felt deeply disappointed. “Why?”

Shang Qi’s anger flared, “You have a wife! How can you chase after someone else?”

“I don’t love her anymore. The day I first met you was when I decided to give her up.”

“That still won’t do. I’m not interested in married men.”

Luo Yichen raised an eyebrow, “So, if I divorced, you’d agree?”

To keep him steady, Shang Qi said, “Only if you’re single would I consider it.”

Luo Yichen was perceptive enough to catch the hesitation in her words. He then said, “Have you ever wondered why the company chose to promote you to supervisor?”

Shang Qi hadn’t expected to be subtly manipulated by her superior. Yet she lacked the confidence to confront him. Her mother had suffered from heart disease for years, incurring high medical bills monthly. Plus, she still owed loans from her undergraduate and graduate studies. At this moment, she truly couldn’t afford to lose her job.

Seeing the troubled look on her face, Luo Yichen’s heart ached. Knowing of her family’s hardships, he had gone to great lengths to promote and raise her salary, hoping to see her smile. But when she played hard to get, he couldn’t help but use this to pressure her into compliance.

After a long time, Shang Qi choked back tears and said, “I can’t lose this job. I’ll agree to whatever you ask.”

Luo Yichen’s heart ached even more. He wiped the tears from her face and said, “I love you, so I won’t force you. Before I divorce, you are not allowed to leave the company.”

Shang Qi looked at him in confusion. Luo Yichen had already opened the door and left...

From then on, Shang Qi deliberately avoided Luo Yichen. But as she rose through the ranks, she often had to enter and exit with the president. In public, Luo Yichen appreciated her as a capable assistant. Behind closed doors, however, he revealed his predatory nature, touching her inappropriately. Yet he kept his promises and never crossed the line.

After Luo Yichen left in anger, he sped off in his car. His chest burned with nameless fury, unsure how to vent it. He loved Shang Qi deeply, even fighting others for her. A man of his status could not afford to fight casually. Yet this woman was ungrateful, daring to equate him with such men.

For several days, everyone at the company was on edge. The president’s face was darker than Judge Bao’s. Any slight mistake meant scolding or punishment. The administrative department was especially tense, each member as jumpy as a startled bird. In today’s tough job market, no one wanted to lose their livelihood.

That afternoon, the administrative supervisor called Shang Qi, saying, “Director Shang, President Luo has slashed the budget for the company’s commemorative banquet to almost nothing. How are we supposed to prepare? The entire event plan depends on the budget. Now, all work is nearly at a standstill.”
