Chapter Sixty-Two: Sealing the Coffin, Vanquishing the Foe
“Hmm?!”
“You’re quite an interesting child. The method you used just now to deflect my attack must be the soul of the Qin bloodline, but… why is it so peculiar?”
The Crimson Corpse’s eyes flashed sharply, scrutinizing Qin Feng without restraint.
He wasn’t surprised that Zhan Bai survived, since he wielded the Supreme Eight Extremes Sword. But that Qin Feng survived was wholly unexpected, and the soul of his bloodline fascinated the Crimson Corpse even further.
“Interesting. I’ll capture you alive later to study you thoroughly. Who knows, eating you might even restore some of my power!” The old ancestor of the Crimson Corpse licked his lips, his face savage and bloodthirsty.
Having watched their companions die and suffer grave injuries, Qin Feng and Zhan Bai were both seething with fury.
Faced with the Crimson Corpse’s menace, Qin Feng not only showed no fear, but even wore a mocking expression.
“Crimson Corpse Ancestor, is it? I don’t care how formidable you were a thousand years ago. Today, your death is at hand, you old monster!”
“My death? You think you can kill me? Ridiculous! An absolute joke!” The Crimson Corpse Ancestor laughed uproariously, shaking the cave once again.
Qin Feng’s face remained unchanged, brimming with confidence. He turned to Zhan Bai, who fought beside him, and said, “Brother Zhan, can you lend me your strength? Together, let us slay this demon and avenge our fallen companions!”
Zhan Bai’s spirit soared at these words!
Qin Feng’s extraordinary prowess during this expedition had already earned Zhan Bai’s trust. He knew that Qin Feng wouldn’t speak so boldly unless he had at least a seventy percent chance of success. Zhan Bai believed him without doubt.
“Just tell me what to do!”
Without hesitation, Zhan Bai replied crisply.
“Good. Use your Supreme Eight Extremes Sword to seal the demon’s five routes of escape. Leave the path of life to me—I will ensure he finds only death!” Qin Feng instructed simply.
No sooner had he spoken than Zhan Bai sent the Supreme Eight Extremes Sword flying!
It twisted through the air, instantly transforming into five silver dragons that roared toward the Crimson Corpse from above, below, left, right, and behind, encircling him from all sides but the front.
There was no frontal attack.
Though Qin Feng did not act, his gaze remained locked onto the Crimson Corpse.
“Hmph, sealing my retreat? Without the Supreme Eight Extremes Sword, what will you use to kill me?”
The Crimson Corpse Ancestor glanced around. The five dragons soared around him, leaving only the front open. He sneered, clearly contemptuous of Qin Feng’s tactics.
“Old wretch, stop pretending! If I’m not mistaken, the real thing trapped in this Blood Qiyi Temple isn’t you, but the Heavenly Demon Blood Qiyi Coffin beneath you. You’re just a slightly stronger ant confined within it!”
At these words, the Crimson Corpse Ancestor’s smile froze.
His secret exposed, his expression turned ugly.
“It seems I guessed correctly. You, trapped, can’t move your limbs. Otherwise, with your cultivation, why would your attacks be so limited? I suspect you can only attack by manipulating your eyes, nothing more.”
“You dare court death!!”
The Crimson Corpse Ancestor raged, blood-red light shooting from his eyes at Qin Feng’s head. Yet again, Qin Feng’s bloodline soul emerged and devoured it entirely.
“It’s useless. Your blood explosion attacks are completely ineffective against me!”
The Crimson Corpse, furious, unleashed wave after wave of blood rays, raining down like swords.
Qin Feng shook his head with a cold laugh.
He used his bloodline soul to shield himself as he advanced toward the coffin, stopping two steps away from it.
“Old wretch, you’re out of tricks!”
Qin Feng glared fiercely at the Crimson Corpse Ancestor and withdrew an object from his storage pouch.
Upon seeing it, the Crimson Corpse Ancestor’s expression changed completely, terror-stricken beyond measure.
The coffin lid!
Qin Feng held the plaque that had hung at the temple entrance—this plaque was, in fact, the lid to the Heavenly Demon Blood Qiyi Coffin.
Qin Feng sensed that if he closed the coffin with this lid, the Crimson Corpse Ancestor would surely die!
“No, don’t! I beg you, don’t kill me! If you spare me, I’ll willingly become your servant and recognize you as my master!”
“I’ll help you become stronger, help you achieve anything you desire!”
“Just spare me, spare me…”
The Crimson Corpse Ancestor, arrogant moments ago, now pleaded for mercy. If he could kneel, he surely would have done so before Qin Feng.
Qin Feng sneered. This ancient monster could bend and endure, surviving even in such dire straits—a true formidable villain. But Qin Feng would not fall for it.
“No need!”
With that, Qin Feng raised the coffin lid and moved to close it over the coffin.
“No!!”
The Crimson Corpse knew that once the lid was sealed, death was certain.
A trapped beast will still fight back—in the final instant before the lid closed, the Crimson Corpse Ancestor gritted his teeth and detonated his Heavenly Gang Corpse Pill, cultivated over a thousand years.
A tremendous force battered the binding power of the Heavenly Demon Blood Qiyi Coffin.
Sensing danger, Qin Feng hastened to close the lid. Should even a trace of the Corpse Pill’s eruption escape the coffin, both Qin Feng and Zhan Bai would be reduced to dust.
Fortunately, Qin Feng was fast enough. Before the blast could escape, he sealed the coffin. Yet the immense force made the lid tremble, and a sliver of blood light leaked through the seam, shooting toward the cave’s exit, deadly as ever.
This old monster was ruthless enough to self-destruct his body and a millennium of cultivation for a slim chance at survival.
“Quick, don’t let him escape!”
At this moment, the Crimson Corpse Ancestor was nothing more than a beaten dog. The sliver of blood light was just a fragment of his soul, so feeble that even a low-level cultivator could destroy it.
He was still fast, though. Qin Feng could not intercept it, but Zhan Bai could.
A flash of sword light!
The blood light was sliced, exploding into a mist that quickly dissipated. Zhan Bai retrieved his sword and sheathed it.
Neither noticed that a single drop of blood clung to the Supreme Eight Extremes Sword, slowly seeping into its blade…
The Crimson Corpse Ancestor was dead, yet Qin Feng’s side had suffered heavy losses.
Of all who ventured forth, only four and a half survived.
Qin Feng approached and placed the Heavenly Demon Blood Qiyi Coffin into his storage ring.
After a moment’s hesitation, Zhan Bai finally spoke: “Brother Qin Feng, I’ll keep your secrets safe. But I must advise you—stay away from the ways of demons and spirits. Otherwise, should we ever find ourselves on opposing sides because of differing paths, do not blame me for showing no mercy with my sword!”
Qin Feng stepped forward and patted Zhan Bai’s shoulder, replying earnestly: “Rest assured, brother. Magic depends on its user, on the heart, not on the technique itself. If I hold no evil in my heart, I will not become a demon. If the day ever comes when I turn to darkness, I will willingly fall under your Supreme Eight Extremes Sword.”
“Good, brother, I believe you!” Zhan Bai smiled with relief and extended his hand.
“Brother!” Qin Feng laughed heartily, clasping Zhan Bai’s hand in midair.
Their laughter echoed, and having endured life and death together, their bond deepened in that moment.
It was a trust that meant entrusting one’s back.
A true friendship forged in life and death.
“The way out—I discovered it while chasing the flying sword. We should leave this place of chaos as soon as possible.”
“Agreed!”
Zhan Bai helped Tu Zheng up, Qin Feng carried Shi Yuan, and they followed the path for less than the time it takes to burn half a stick of incense. Soon, they came upon an odd, ancient, miniature teleportation array.
“A teleportation array!”
Qin Feng was astonished.
“Yes, I was surprised too when I found it! Unfortunately, it’s only a one-way array, and it’s so ancient I’m not sure it still works.”
With that, Zhan Bai took several mid-grade mystical stones from his storage pouch and placed them in the array’s grooves. Moments later, the six-pointed star lit up with a hum, teleporting all four of them away.
Just as Qin Feng and his companions departed, the ancient temple atop the mysterious little black mountain in Yunmang Mountain collapsed, and the mountain itself vanished once more…
