Chapter 83: Setting Out Separately

Ever since Yue Sansi parted ways with Hongyun, he had been indulging in fine food and wine for days on end. After determining the right direction, his first order of business was to leave the Far Northern Demon Wastes.
Because he was situated above the Far Northern Demon Wastes, the journey was sparsely populated and passed without much incident.
After more than a month, his party finally reached the border of the Far Northern Demon Wastes. Finding a relatively weak spot, he steered the flying vessel straight through.
Though a violent tremor shook the air, the vessel emerged unscathed—an escape more thrilling than perilous.
The only issue was that the disturbance had been considerable, drawing the attention of the demon clans who guarded these borders.
The leading demon, a longtime warden of this land, had weathered disturbances before and always managed to suppress them. Sensing the ruckus, he grabbed his great blade and led a small squad toward the source of the commotion.
Yue Sansi, whose cultivation had long since reached the peak of the Nirvana realm, could clearly sense the murderous intent and vigilance radiating from those approaching.
Seeing this, a faint red gleam flickered in his eyes. His hand gripped his Tranquil Mind Staff, squeezing until a piercing, whistling sound split the air.
He was just about to stride forward and slaughter these lesser and greater demons alike, but as he took his first step, he paused.
Hadn't Hongyun warned him about something before?
Yue Sansi pondered carefully, murmuring to himself:
“Does he have any reason to attack me?
I suppose so—after all, I have swaggered through their territory without a care.
Would he harm me?
Most likely—given that gleaming blade in his hand, if he struck me, he’d surely shear off my fur.
Is he intent on killing me?
I should think so—he’s charging at me, weapon raised. If I don’t act, won’t these demons look down on the name of the Half-Demon Kingdom?”
Having finished his musings, his eyes grew brighter, and his grip tightened further. With a forceful step, he shot skyward and brought his staff crashing down.
These demons, lacking Hongyun’s formidable physique, stood no chance. Though their leader was a mighty Nirvana demon, he couldn’t withstand such a blow—bones shattered, tendons snapped, and not even a moment was granted for his body to recover; his head was smashed to nothing with a single strike.
After this, Yue Sansi returned to the flying vessel, his eyes gradually clearing, a sense of satisfaction settling in his chest.
As expected, Brother Yun’s advice was indeed effective—how exhilarating.
He casually placed the Tranquil Mind Staff behind his back. Then, remembering something, he leapt off the vessel once more.
That demon seemed to be a pheasant… If I cook it while it’s fresh, it should taste excellent.

...
Howling Moon Wolf Clan...
From atop a distant mountain, Hongyun gazed out at the swelling demon aura on the horizon, his heart tranquil and undisturbed.
After several days of observation and deduction, his suspicions had proven correct.
The closer he drew to this place, the faster the moonlight shrouding his body was refined. Not only that, but he had stumbled upon another unexpected gain.
“Zhao Mieyou.”
Hongyun turned, looking calmly at the kneeling demon cultivator behind him, though a faint trace of anticipation flickered in his heart.
“Are you certain what you say is true?”
“Master, every word Zhao Mieyou speaks is fact.”
Zhao Mieyou glanced up at Hongyun, then bowed low again, his tone resolute:
“I am certain. The Howling Moon Wolf Clan is plotting something significant. They intend to use a most peculiar method to offer a sacrifice and thereby obtain power. I only overheard a fragment, but I am sure there is no deceit—for now, the ritual vessel, usually seen only during clan ceremonies, is being worshipped daily to gather the world’s moonlight.”
So it seems... The Howling Moon Wolf Clan is indeed on the verge of some great event.
Hongyun stroked his chin and looked out at the faint red moonlight in the distance, curiosity burning ever brighter in his heart.
He had once studied the method by which the Howling Moon Wolf Clan’s cultivators broke through to the Metamorphosis realm.
But that was not the most pressing matter. What truly concerned him was the sudden appearance of a tail behind him.
He looked sharply in one direction, his eyes like lightning. With a powerful step, he surged forward.
Boom!
With a thunderous roar, an avalanche cascaded down the snowy mountains.
In Hongyun’s hand now hung a corpse. With a flick of his finger, he popped open the skull and drew out the demon core.
Seeing Zhao Mieyou’s stunned gaze fixed upon him, Hongyun tossed the corpse over.
“Be more careful next time. Don’t make such obvious mistakes—it’s too close to the Howling Moon Wolf Clan’s territory. Luckily, this time it was only a late-stage Nirvana wolf demon who followed us. Had it been someone stronger, it would have required more effort.”
“Thank you, Master.”
Zhao Mieyou immediately transformed into his massive wolf form and swallowed the corpse whole.
Having only recently broken through to the Nirvana realm, he was still a newcomer among the mid-level ranks and sorely needed to strengthen himself.

Moreover, his bloodline was somewhat inferior. The essence blood of his own kind within the Howling Moon Wolf Clan could be refined and made his own, at least to some extent.
As soon as he swallowed the corpse, he felt a surge of strength. He was just preparing to refine it slowly when Hongyun’s words replayed in his mind. Startled, he couldn’t help but let out a burp:
Thankfully... late-stage Nirvana!
He was still dazed when Hongyun grabbed him and began striding away:
“We can’t linger here. The death of a late-stage Nirvana demon is enough to draw the Howling Moon Wolf Clan’s full attention. After I toss you aside, wait until you’ve fully refined his aura before returning to your clan.
As for your mission...”
Hongyun paused as he ran nearly a hundred miles, then flung Zhao Mieyou aside:
“Cultivate well. Just stay alive until I bring the fight to the Howling Moon Wolf Clan’s doorstep.”
...
About a quarter of an hour after Hongyun departed, two figures appeared at the site.
Sensing the lingering aura, they tossed a wolf-fang-shaped talisman to the ground.
“The Fate-Seeker Fang led us here. It seems Second Brother’s only son fell at this spot.”
He sighed deeply, regret heavy in his voice.
“First, Second Brother lost his only grandson. Then Second Brother himself was gone. Now, his sole son is dead as well. Truly, fate toys with us. I said before this venture would only bring misfortune, but Second Brother wouldn’t listen. He insisted on continuing, and now the consequences can’t be reversed—retribution has come.”
“You’re muttering again, Fifth Brother.”
He formed a seal, and a surge of blood-red demonic energy enveloped him.
“Let me activate the Fate-Seeker Fang and find the true culprit behind all this. I refuse to believe we can’t prevail—”
But before he finished, the Fate-Seeker Fang shattered to pieces in his hand.
His eyes widened in impotent fury.
“Awooo—”
