Chapter 17: Salt-Baked Hand-Torn Roast Chicken
The hall designated for receiving external superpowered individuals was in utter disarray.
Only after the crowd dispersed did Wan Sun hurriedly step forward to support him. “Mayor, are you all right?”
The mayor’s face was dark with fury as he brushed off her hand and stood on his own.
All right? How could he possibly be all right?
His meticulously planned operation had been shattered, the coveted third-tier crystal was lost, and on top of that, he was severely injured… All of this was unbearable.
Wan Sun, clearly familiar with his temper, cautiously tried to soothe him. “Mayor, it doesn’t matter that they left. At least we’ve achieved more than half of our initial goal. Besides… she’s still here, isn’t she?”
She gestured subtly toward Su Su’s direction.
The mayor closed his eyes in bitter resentment. “Do you think she’s worth a third-tier crystal?”
At this point, he no longer bothered to hide his disdain and cruelty in his tone—it was palpable.
Wan Sun dared not say another word.
After a long pause, the mayor finally opened his eyes. The usual feigned gentleness had vanished, replaced by an impenetrable darkness.
“Wan Sun.”
“Yes? What orders do you have?”
“Take all the ordinary people those superpowered ones brought and throw them into hard labor. I never want to see them again!”
Wan Sun quickly responded, “Yes, sir!”
The mayor took several deep breaths, then suddenly turned toward the only woman left behind in the hall.
She was still wearing the white dress he had given her, a fragile figure hiding behind a pillar, her innocent eyes and face instantly stirring his destructive urges.
“Bring her to my room.”
“Yes.”
The brief exchange seemed to trigger a panic in Su Su, whose beautiful eyes instantly reflected terror.
“I—I want to leave; please let me go, won’t you?”
Such naive hope.
The mayor sneered coldly. “Do you know why they left you behind?”
Su Su bit her lip lightly and shook her head. “I don’t know…”
“To put out the fire for me.”
For a fleeting moment, the mayor’s face twisted into something savage. Just thinking about being outwitted earlier ignited a furious blaze within him.
Since the apocalypse began, he had never suffered such a huge loss.
Anger needed an outlet, and the woman before him was the perfect target.
“Blame your companions, then.”
“If they had been obedient, I might have kept my interest in you a little longer.”
“But now…”
He no longer cared about the fate of this little beauty; tonight, he intended to vent his wrath completely.
“Wan Sun, have her thoroughly cleaned and prepared.”
Wan Sun lowered her head. “Yes.”
The mayor left, his injuries severe enough to require immediate attention.
As for Su Su, her escape attempt failed, and she was unceremoniously thrown into the mayor’s room.
“Please let me go. I’m not from this town. I don’t want to stay here…”
She suddenly grabbed Wan Sun’s hand, tears streaming down her face in a pitiful, miserable display.
But Wan Sun, having spent over half a year inI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
