Chapter 17: Changge Moon—Ugly in Appearance, Dark at Heart (4)
Changge Yujiao and Changge Yuqing froze, then saw Changge Yue, who had just returned.
A sudden wave of shame and fury flushed Changge Yujiao’s face crimson. Changge Yue curled her lip. “The Fifth Sister is a legitimate young lady, after all. At least she still possesses a sense of shame.”
“I…” Changge Yujiao was momentarily speechless. After her petty calculations twisted through eighteen turns in her mind, she immediately declared, “Changge Yue, Father has been troubled lately over the army’s provisions. You possess so many gold and silver treasures, yet you refuse to ease his burden. Our Changge estate has no legitimate daughter like you. You are utterly unworthy of being Father’s daughter.”
Changge Yue merely pursed her lips. Changge Yuqing, mistaking her silence for guilt, promptly added, “We are presenting these things to Father on your behalf, so you need not thank us. If you possess even the slightest conscience and wish to repay him, go and find us a few wooden chests.” There was far too much here to fit inside a single outer garment.
Bamboo hurried forward and seized Changge Yue’s sleeve. “My lady… You cannot give them to her…”
“Wretched servant! Who gave you the right to speak here?” Changge Yuqing had long since grown to hate the blind little maid at Changge Yue’s side. She drew the long whip from her waist and lashed it toward Bamboo.
A glint of severity flashed through Changge Yue’s eyes. She swiftly stepped in front of Bamboo, shielding her, then caught the whip with her bare hand.
Changge Yuqing met Changge Yue’s limpid gaze. Instead of panicking, she revealed a trace of smugness.
Changge Yue arched a brow, a heroic air flowing between her brows. “I truly cannot decide whether to praise your limited intelligence or commend your foolish courage.” She had merely smeared a little poison on the whip and already imagined she could turn the tables against Changge Yue?
Then she would have to disappoint her. Changge Yue was the ancestor of every poison under heaven!
With a sharp tug, Changge Yue seized the whip and kicked Changge Yuqing squarely in the chest. She then flung the whip aside and lashed it toward her.
“Ah! Fifth Sister, save me!” Changge Yuqing abandoned all concern for appearances, crawling and rolling across the ground to evade the whip.
She had coated that whip with a poison that caused the skin to erupt in sores and the hands and feet to ooze pus. What would she do if it struck her?
Changge Yue played with her as a cat played with a mouse. Every lash seemed aimed directly at Changge Yuqing, yet each one veered just a little to the side, forcing her to roll frantically across the ground in a humiliating scramble.
Nearby, Changge Yujiao first showed a flicker of astonishment in her eyes. Was this woman truly that useless Changge Yue?
“Fifth Sister, save me!”
Changge Yuqing had torn her clothes crawling and rolling on the ground, and her hair had come loose from its coiffure. She looked utterly disheveled.
Changge Yujiao let out a muffled snort and drew the long sword at her waist. In an unhurried voice, she said, “Changge Yue, that is enough.”
It was not that she cared about Changge Yuqing. It was simply that wherever Changge Yujiao stood, Changge Yue, that ugly wretch, had no right to flaunt her power.
As expected, Changge Yue withdrew the whip. Toying with the poisoned weapon in her hand, she wore the faintest smile between her brows. “And what will Fifth Sister do?”
“You know martial arts?!” Changge Yujiao’s eyes filled with disbelief. Everyone knew Changge Yue was a genuine good-for-nothing!
Changge Yue gave a cold laugh. It was not that she knew martial arts—it was that the former Wanwan had.
Changge Yujiao stared at Changge Yue with undisguised malice, the fury in her heart seeming ready to consume her.
