Chapter 86 Dispute (Part Two)
Bai Shengyun believed everything she said was just out of anger, so he suppressed his own fury and reminded her, “You can only be with me, otherwise you really will die in the end.”
“I told you, then so be it! Besides, I’m not limited to just being with you, I can be with Gu Ruohan too. Who do you think you are? Does everyone have to be with you?” Xie Yingying, reckless and desperate, cursed angrily, “You’re just a scoundrel—cold, heartless, stubborn, and self-centered! You’ll be with many people in the future, can’t you just let me off? Stop toying with people!”
Hearing this, Bai Shengyun’s golden eyes grew lighter, his brows smoothed out, and to his own surprise, he felt a hint of delight, even as Xie Yingying’s words made him laugh out of sheer exasperation.
“Who would I fall for?”
“For example, Ning Qingqing, or Shen Ruru!” Xie Yingying answered at once.
“I will never fall for Ning Qingqing. Not only is her cultivation weak, but she’s not honest, and her character is especially poor. Besides, she’s pursuing me only for the hope of increasing her cultivation in the future, so she can gain better protection in this chaotic world of cultivation,” Bai Shengyun replied coolly. “As for Shen Ruru, she’s nothing more than a subordinate who has helped me a great deal, but she’s ruthless and has committed countless crimes. So, I will not fall for either of them.”
“Then you’ll just fall for someone else in the future, so why can’t you keep your distance from me? I’m doomed to die sooner or later anyway!”
Bai Shengyun scoffed, suddenly letting out a soft laugh. “I practice the Path of Ruthlessness—who could I possibly love? Besides, I already told you: if you come back to Gu Feng Mountain with me, I can still save your life.”
“Save yourself—!”
Xie Yingying’s words were abruptly cut off.
Her eyes widened as Bai Shengyun’s face drew near, so close she could feel it, and a gentle warmth pressed against her lips.
There was no emotion in Bai Shengyun’s golden eyes; it was as if he was merely confirming something, or perhaps testing her in some way.
Caught off guard by this kiss, Xie Yingying froze for a moment, then struggled to break free.
But Bai Shengyun held her firmly by the back of her head, making it impossible for her to move.
She raised her hands to pound against his chest, but his grip only tightened, the kiss growing deeper, forcing her until she could barely breathe.
After a long while, Bai Shengyun finally let go, releasing her lips so that she could gasp for air.
He lifted her chin, his gaze still fixed on her, but now with a new depth.
Xie Yingying clenched her teeth, cursing in her heart: Bai Shengyun really is a bastard—doesn’t care for anyone, yet still toys with people, and even resorts to force! A hypocrite, a common thug!
“Do you really think every woman in the world has to like you, has to revolve around you?” Xie Yingying sneered, her gaze full of contempt. “Why? Who do you think you are?”
Bai Shengyun pressed his lips together and said nothing.
“It’s impossible! Only blind fools would like you!” Xie Yingying continued to hurl insults. “I will never like you. You’d be better off going to those who do—stop getting in my way!”
At her final words, Bai Shengyun’s eyes darkened, anger flaring.
Xie Yingying saw it but felt not the slightest fear. Instead, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
With a sharp crack, Bai Shengyun’s head snapped to the side, a red mark blooming instantly on his cheek. His expression shifted, his face darkening with rage, storm clouds gathering in his eyes as he seized Xie Yingying by the throat, murderous intent flashing across his brows.
This time, Xie Yingying truly felt that Bai Shengyun had become a beast, ready to crush her in an instant.
“If that’s what you think, then I really do want you to keep watching me. Maybe I’ll just cut off your head, dig out your eyes, and keep them in my study!” Bai Shengyun said with a chilling laugh, furious beyond measure.
At these words, Xie Yingying’s hair stood on end, her survival instinct kicking in with full force.
Before she knew it, a dagger had appeared in Bai Shengyun’s hand. He took it and sliced open her carefully arranged clothing with a single stroke.
Pinned under his palm, Xie Yingying let out a startled cry, a sound that startled even those waiting outside—Huo Tianqing and the newly arrived Gu Ruohan among them.
The group made to rush in, but Bai Shengyun sensed it in time and unleashed the full power of the Purple Gold Bell, blocking them all.
Then he flung Xie Yingying onto the bed, tightening his grip on her throat until she couldn’t utter a word, her vision blurring from lack of air.
She struggled desperately, but Bai Shengyun only squeezed harder.
“Cough…cough…” Xie Yingying choked.
“Still want to keep cursing?” Bai Shengyun asked in a low voice.
Unable to answer, Xie Yingying felt his grip loosen just enough for her to gasp for breath.
As her vision cleared, she saw Bai Shengyun’s icy, furious face, and though fear flashed through her heart, she suddenly grinned and spat at him.
Bai Shengyun turned his head, dodging the spit, his eyes cold and sinister as he tightened his grip on her throat once more, his other hand tearing at her collar.
Xie Yingying coughed painfully and, brow furrowed, forced out each word with difficulty: “If you… kill me, you won’t walk out of here alive today!”
At this, Bai Shengyun’s hand, poised at her collar, paused. Seeing the utter loathing and rejection on her face, he felt as if a piece of flesh had been torn from his heart.
He let go, one hand pressing her shoulder, his eyes dark and unreadable.
“Do you hate me that much?” Bai Shengyun asked.
“Yes,” Xie Yingying answered without hesitation.
He lowered his eyes, making it even harder for her to discern his emotions.
After a long silence, Bai Shengyun released her completely and sat at the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
“I have practiced the Path of Ruthlessness since I was a child…”
Xie Yingying shot him a cold look, thoroughly irritated, and interrupted, “That has nothing to do with me.”
Bai Shengyun said no more, moving instead to the tea table and sitting on a wooden stool.
Xie Yingying jumped off the bed and rushed to the door, determined to leave, but no matter how hard she pushed, the door wouldn’t budge. She turned back in fury, glaring at Bai Shengyun.
“Open the door!”
Bai Shengyun simply examined the teacup in his hand, ignoring her completely.
Seeing his attitude, Xie Yingying realized there was no way out today. She couldn’t defeat him and had no way to escape, so she turned back to the bed, threw herself down, and pulled the covers over her head in utter frustration.
Bai Shengyun noticed the quilt forming a round, bundled shape over her and set down his teacup, resting his head in his hand as he gazed at the lump on the bed.
By then, the sun had set again, and the blood moon rose once more.
Thus, another day passed.
