Chapter 073: The Upgraded Sacred Elixir
A bold idea suddenly flashed through Xin Lang’s mind. If this idea worked, his problem with the meridians could be resolved very soon.
He placed all sixty bottles of the “Blue Silver Vital Meridian Elixir” he had just prepared into the Upgrader, storing them in a separate compartment. These elixirs had used up all the medicinal ingredients at his disposal, and each one had reached the ninth rank of the “Treasure” grade. Although the “Blue Silver Vital Meridian Elixir” was a Treasure-grade, ninth-rank potion—a priceless treasure—it still could not swiftly heal Xin Lang’s meridians.
Thus, a new idea arose in Xin Lang’s mind: he would use the Upgrader’s enhancement function to further upgrade these sixty bottles.
Previously, Xin Lang had only ever upgraded ingredients, like Fo-ti root, for making potions; he had never tried upgrading a finished potion before. With a mix of anticipation and anxiety, he tapped the “Upgrade” button beneath the compartment. The Upgrader immediately displayed a prompt: “Upgrading Treasure-grade Ninth-Rank ‘Blue Silver Vital Meridian Elixir’ to Treasure-grade Tenth-Rank ‘Blue Silver Meridian Elixir’ requires 10 experience points. Proceed with upgrade?”
“Upgrade!” Xin Lang chose without hesitation.
It only took 10 experience points to upgrade from Treasure-grade ninth-rank to Treasure-grade tenth-rank. Ten experience points meant little to Xin Lang now. Without further thought, he confirmed the upgrade.
Immediately, the Upgrader deducted 10 experience points, and the Treasure-grade ninth-rank “Blue Silver Vital Meridian Elixir” was now the Treasure-grade tenth-rank “Blue Silver Meridian Elixir.”
“Wonderful! Excellent! Why didn’t I think of this sooner?” Xin Lang berated himself, thinking that if this had occurred to him earlier, his meridians might already have been healed by now.
Yet, Xin Lang was still not entirely satisfied with the Treasure-grade tenth-rank “Blue Silver Meridian Elixir.” What he truly needed was a “Saint”-grade potion—only a Saint-grade elixir could rapidly restore his blocked meridians.
“Upgrade, one more level!” Xin Lang pressed the upgrade button again.
The Upgrader prompted: “Upgrading Treasure-grade Tenth-Rank ‘Blue Silver Meridian Elixir’ to Saint-grade First-Rank ‘Blue Silver Saint Elixir’ requires 100 experience points!”
Crossing from Treasure-grade to Saint-grade required ten times more experience points! Xin Lang knew that each rank up within the Saint-grade would cost another 100 experience points.
He hesitated for a long time. Ten points was nothing, but a hundred was not so easily spent. After a moment’s deliberation, he gritted his teeth and chose to upgrade.
To elevate the Treasure-grade ninth-rank “Blue Silver Vital Meridian Elixir” to the Saint-grade first-rank “Blue Silver Saint Elixir” cost him a total of 110 experience points! It pained him, but he felt the expense was justified. Still, Xin Lang decided not to upgrade further for the moment; with each additional rank costing another 100 points, even he could not afford to be so extravagant. He would test the potion’s effects first before making any further decisions.
From the upgraded compartment, Xin Lang took out two bottles of the newly minted Saint-grade first-rank “Blue Silver Saint Elixir.” This was his first time using such a potion, one that only a master alchemist could concoct. Holding the bottles, his heart raced with excitement.
He poured one bottle into his bathwater, then drank the other in a single gulp.
“Two bottles of Saint-grade first-rank potion in one day—such extravagance!” Xin Lang sighed inwardly. If a Saint-grade first-rank potion were put up for auction, it would fetch at least hundreds of thousands of gold coins!
However, the “Blue Silver Saint Elixir” was specially formulated for his blocked meridians. If it were a general-use potion, he would have made a fortune by now!
Sitting in the medicinal water, Xin Lang felt the effects of the elixir working both inside and out.
“The efficacy of a Saint-grade potion is truly extraordinary!” Xin Lang thought joyfully. “If I use up all sixty bottles of the Saint-grade first-rank ‘Blue Silver Saint Elixir,’ my meridians should be almost fully restored!”
After the medicinal effects had run their course, Xin Lang stood up from the bath. As he picked up his clothes to get dressed, someone burst through his door with a loud crash.
Startled, Xin Lang thought that Meng Linglong had come looking for him again, and he hurriedly used his clothes to cover himself.
“Boss!” a voice called urgently.
Xin Lang looked up and saw that it was not Meng Linglong, but rather the rotund Gu Ge.
“Fatty…” Xin Lang relaxed, but seeing Gu Ge’s eyes blazing with urgency as he rushed over, Xin Lang feared the worst—perhaps his friend was about to do something rash. “Fatty, what are you doing? Ouyang Yanran already left; if you need company, go to the Spring Delight House…”
Ignoring him, Gu Ge rushed to Xin Lang’s side, grabbed his hands, and pleaded, “Boss, you have to help me this time!”
“Uh… I can’t help you with that kind of thing. Really, you should just go to the Spring Delight House for that,” Xin Lang said nervously.
“How could they help me? Only you can!” Gu Ge insisted.
“What is it, then?” Xin Lang shook off Gu Ge’s hands, still clutching his clothes around himself.
Gu Ge explained, “My old man heard that I’d been accepted by the Martial Academy in Xiadu, so he decided to move our family business there. Just a few days ago, he set off for Xiadu with several house servants.”
“That’s excellent news!” Xin Lang said.
“But he returned today, badly injured! Boss, you must save him!” Gu Ge’s voice trembled with worry.
“Injured? Quickly, take me to him!”
Without delay, Xin Lang hurriedly dressed and followed Gu Ge to his home.
The Gu family residence, though spacious, was far less luxurious than the City Lord’s mansion—no gilded beams or jade inlay, but everywhere there were flowers and trees, lending the place a refined elegance.
“To think Old Gu, the fat one, actually has good taste!” Xin Lang thought as he admired the grounds.
He followed Gu Ge into Gu Dong’s room to examine the patient. Gu Dong was lying in bed; his external wounds were minor, but his internal organs had been shaken by hidden force, some displaced and severely damaged. If it hadn’t been for his loyal servants who risked everything to bring him back for treatment, he would already be in the underworld.
“Boss, can you save my old man?” Gu Ge asked anxiously.
Xin Lang didn’t answer immediately. He produced a bottle of potion and handed it to Gu Ge. “Give this to your father.”
This was the healing potion Xin Lang had previously prepared for Ouyang Feiyun; he had some left, and now it would serve Gu Ge’s father.
After administering the medicine, Gu Ge asked, “Boss, will my father be all right?” He had great faith in Xin Lang’s medicine.
Xin Lang replied, “He should be out of danger. Once the potion takes effect and the injuries stabilize, I’ll use hidden force to realign his internal organs and he’ll be fine.”
“Uh… I don’t have it in me to do that to my old man. Boss, you’ll have to help!” Gu Ge said.
“Very well!” Xin Lang nodded, then asked, “Your father was struck by hidden force. Do you know who did it?”
Gu Ge’s expression darkened. “The servants said it was Zhao Tianhong, the third chief of Sky Mountain! Not only did he injure my father, he stole two hundred thousand gold coins and three ‘Sevenfold Rejuvenation Pills’! My father had brought those three pills—purchased from you, Boss—to Xiadu to auction, and with the gold, he’d have been able to set up our family there. But those bandits from Sky Mountain robbed him on the way!”
