Chapter 58: Shen Xian, What Do You Expect Me to Do?
Shen Xian turned his head stiffly to look at Xiao Zhengchun.
The scholar still wore a smug expression, shaking his leg as he glanced at Shen Xian.
The Diamond Barbie strode over with a fierce and imposing gait, reached out a large hand, and precisely pinched the scholar's neck. Like lifting a chick, she tossed him into the Mercedes-Benz, saying, “Elbow, come home with me!”
Then she switched to a sweet, gentle face and said to Shen Xian, “Xiao Shen, come over for a meal at Auntie’s place when you have time!”
Shen Xian waved politely. “Goodbye, Auntie.”
The robust aunt rolled down the window, casting Shen Xian a flirtatious glance. “What a handsome young man.”
Shen Xian watched the departing Mercedes G-Class with a smile the entire time.
“Hmph, what a peculiar taste!” came a cold snort.
Shen Xian turned around and saw a fully-armed woman holding a little girl’s hand, her right hand dragging a suitcase, standing behind him.
Sunglasses, sun-protective clothing, a hat—only her mouth was visible.
He had no idea when Zhou Wan had arrived.
Shen Xian’s gaze then fell on the little girl. She was plump and rosy-cheeked, her skin fair and delicate, with large Karansi-like eyes blinking as she studied Shen Xian intently, full of curiosity.
She looked very much like Zhou Wan.
Shen Xian’s heart instantly melted. “Wow, is this your daughter? She’s just too adorable! Let me hold her!”
As he spoke, he walked over and scooped Zhou Qingqing into his arms.
Zhou Qingqing seemed to have a natural affection for Shen Xian, opening her arms. “Hug.”
Shen Xian breathed in her milky scent and pinched her chubby cheeks. “What’s your name? How can you be this cute?”
“My name is Qingqing,” Zhou Qingqing replied crisply.
Holding Zhou Qingqing with one arm, Shen Xian took Zhou Wan’s suitcase with his left hand. “Let’s go.”
The three of them entered the residential complex.
Zhou Wan walked behind him, looking at Shen Xian carrying Qingqing in his right arm and pulling the suitcase with his left, suddenly feeling dazed.
At that moment, she actually felt a sense of home.
Especially as Qingqing lay against Shen Xian’s shoulder, giggling, occasionally tugging at his hair and earlobes.
It was Qingqing’s first time interacting with a man. She was insatiably curious, constantly pinching Shen Xian’s earlobes and cheeks.
“Miss Zhou, could you walk a little faster?” Shen Xian turned back, his smile both handsome and gentle.
Qingqing, in his arms, had her hands wrapped around his neck, her big eyes narrowing as she gazed at Zhou Wan.
Zhou Wan’s heart gradually softened, her voice unconsciously gentle.
She longed to tell Shen Xian that Zhou Qingqing was his daughter.
She was the product of three years ago—she needed a father’s love.
But would Shen Xian accept it?
And what about the postman teacher?
Thus, Zhou Wan was conflicted.
Deep down, the one she liked was the postman.
The postman maintained clear boundaries, was polite and gentlemanly, highly talented, never overstepped with words, and always responded to her needs.
But Shen Xian?
He too appeared the perfect gentleman—mature and steady. Everyone praised him as humble, courteous, and elegant.
Otherwise, she would not have chosen Shen Xian three years ago.
One step at a time, she thought with a sigh.
Soon, they arrived at Shen Xian’s home.
Zhou Wan was surprised to find his apartment neat and spotlessly clean, with a faint, pleasant scent.
The clothes drying on the balcony were orderly, without a hint of mess.
Entering the room, Shen Xian showed her the master bedroom. “Here’s the main bedroom. I’ve already cleaned it. The quilt, sheets, and mattress are all brand new.”
As he spoke, he carried Qingqing to the living room, where there were plenty of building blocks and toys. He set Qingqing down. “The toys and blocks were all bought yesterday. Qingqing can play with them at ease—I’ve already disinfected them with boiling water.”
He then fetched a brand new pair of women’s slippers from the shoe cabinet and handed them to Zhou Wan. “These are new too, so you can wear them without worry.”
Zhou Wan was momentarily stunned.
It was hard to imagine a man being so meticulous, attentive to every detail.
As noon approached, Shen Xian entered the kitchen and opened the fridge. “I went out early this morning to buy fresh ingredients. Let’s eat at home these next few days—it’s less convenient to dine out. What kind of cuisine do you prefer?”
Seated on the sofa, Zhou Wan replied absentmindedly, “Anything’s fine. Qingqing…”
“Don’t worry about Qingqing, I’ve got it covered,” Shen Xian said, closing the kitchen door and starting to cook.
Zhou Wan sat in a daze, watching his busy figure.
He wore a crisp white shirt, black suit trousers, and leather shoes, yet now was bustling about in the kitchen—a striking contrast.
Sitting on the living room sofa, Zhou Wan held her phone but couldn’t tear her gaze away from Shen Xian for even a second.
She glanced at Qingqing, who was playing with the blocks. She clearly adored the new toys Shen Xian had bought, occasionally raising her head to look at him.
Whenever Qingqing saw Shen Xian still within sight, she would lower her head again.
After just one or two hours together, Qingqing already seemed to have formed a reliance on him.
Zhou Wan suddenly felt that such a life wasn’t so bad after all.
Not long after, Shen Xian turned off the range hood and set the dishes on the table. “Miss Zhou, time to eat.”
Zhou Wan was about to pick up Qingqing, but Shen Xian walked over. “You go wash your hands. Leave Qingqing to me.”
He squatted down, clapped his hands at Qingqing, and opened his arms. “Come here, little one.”
Qingqing immediately dropped her toys, struggled to her feet, and toddled over to him, falling into his arms with a giggle, rubbing her head against his Adam’s apple.
Zhou Wan felt a warmth in her heart, her expression softening as she looked at Shen Xian.
After she washed her hands, Shen Xian carried Qingqing to the bathroom to help her wash up, gently coaxing, “We wash our hands before meals. There are lots of germs on toys—if they get into your tummy, it’ll hurt.”
It was as if he was born to care for children.
At the dining table, Zhou Wan watched as Shen Xian brought out a children’s chair from another room and settled Qingqing in.
She was stunned. “You even prepared this?”
Shen Xian nodded. “Yes, I went to several mother and baby stores.”
Zhou Wan was at a loss for words, sighing softly.
How many women could truly resist a man like this?
Shen Xian then ladled out a bowl of pork rib soup for Zhou Wan, carefully wiping the rim clean before placing it in front of her. “Have some soup first—be careful, it’s hot.”
He then brought out a four-in-one kids’ dinner set containing a nutritious meal he’d prepared for Qingqing. “Qingqing, this is for you.”
There was a soup made from lotus root powder and some complementary foods.
Qingqing tasted a spoonful, then eagerly picked up the spoon. “Yummy!”
Zhou Wan took a sip of the pork rib soup and felt her taste buds explode with delight. She looked at the four dishes and one soup on the table; they were all beautifully colored, aromatic, and delicious.
It was simply too good.
Her appetite surged. She brushed back a strand of hair and drank the soup with contentment.
Qingqing soon finished her meal. Zhou Wan looked at her utensils—this was the first time she had seen Qingqing eat so attentively.
Shen Xian immediately set down his own chopsticks, pulled out a napkin, and gently wiped Qingqing’s mouth.
Zhou Wan lowered her head, a storm raging in her heart, tears glimmering in her eyes as she whispered inwardly, “Shen Xian, what am I supposed to do with you?”
