Chapter 36: Dare to Covet Gu Jinzhou's Little Sweetheart? Are You Tired of Living?!
The scarlet cigarette butt between Gu Jinzhou’s fingers had burned down to the filter. He pursed his lips, his gaze cold and indifferent, his refined and noble features cast in a layer of intimidating aloofness.
He ignored Su Lan'er entirely.
Li Shaojue stepped out of the elevator. He saw the young girl in the pink miniskirt clinging to Gu Jinzhou’s waist, her voice soft and sweet as she coquettishly begged for forgiveness. Her legs were slender and straight, and her skin—nurtured by wealth and tenderness—was like fine porcelain; one would be hard-pressed to find its equal in all of Hong Kong.
The girl who had been dancing in the red dress and butterfly mask moments ago was Su Ruanruan.
Li Shaojue walked over and took Su Lan'er’s hand. "Your hands are a bit cold," the man said in a low, flat voice. "Let’s go; it’s very late."
Su Lan'er had no choice but to leave, filled with resentment.
Soon, Gu Fengyan and Mu Xin'er hurried over. Although Gu Jinzhou’s expression was darkly terrifying and his coldness kept everyone at a distance, he had at least not done anything extreme to Ruanruan.
Just as Mu Xin'er was about to speak, Gu Fengyan took her hand. His voice was stern but not without warmth. "Today’s incident was just two young girls acting out. One had her family stolen by Su Lan'er, the other had her boyfriend stolen by her. They just wanted to provoke Su Lan'er, and as it turned out, they succeeded."
Mu Xin'er was a beautiful girl with more curves than sense, but at that moment, her intellect suddenly clicked into place. "Su Lan'er loves red and wants to be a ballerina, but she’s a total klutz at dancing. That’s why Ruanruan wore the red dress to dance and provoke her! It really, truly wasn’t for Li Shaojue’s birthday!"
Su Ruanruan nodded vigorously. "Gu Jinzhou, brother... please, don't be silent. I’m scared."
"You know how to be scared?" Gu Jinzhou let out a low, deep chuckle. His handsome, noble face wore a look of playful yet chilling indifference that made one shudder.
Gu Fengyan led Mu Xin'er away. She kept asking if Ruanruan would be okay. She was terrified and wanted Gu Fengyan to guarantee that Ruanruan wouldn't be harmed by Gu Jinzhou.
Gu Fengyan opened the car door and fastened her seatbelt, his gentle voice unhurried. "If Jinzhou were going to turn the world upside down just because Ruanruan danced at Li Shaojue’s birthday, wouldn't he have been furious to death when Ruanruan spent half a year chasing after Li Shaojue?"
He paused after speaking.
During those six months, Gu Jinzhou’s mental state had been abysmal—gloomy and extreme. He would cough up blood every few days, his body growing frailer by the day, looking as though he were on the path of those whose brilliance and deep affection lead to an early grave.
Then, one day, Gu Jinzhou’s illness simply vanished. He not only forced himself to eat but also to exercise, as if nothing had changed, except that his temperament had become much darker.
When Gu Fengyan visited the old family estate, the Matriarch of the Gu family was questioning him: "You nearly drove yourself to death for Ruanruan. Now that you’ve regained your spirit, for what purpose are you doing it?"
Gu Jinzhou replied, "For her."
From that moment, Gu Fengyan understood: Su Ruanruan’s life and honor might not be in Gu Jinzhou’s hands, but Gu Jinzhou’s life and honor were certainly in hers. Whether they laughed or fought, no one else could ever intervene.
-
At the top floor of the Imperial Seal, several men sat around a luxurious long table playing cards—or perhaps 'gambling' was a more fitting term.
Gu Jinzhou’s status as the Crown Prince of the Gu family was conspicuous enough, and even more so today with the delicate and haughty little Princess Gu by his side. Every eye was fixed on them.
The porcelain-white skin, the impossibly slender waist, and those soft, charming, water-filled eyes... almost everyone had recognized that the little Princess Gu was the red-clad dancer who had captivated the entire hall. If they hadn't come to the Imperial Seal today, they never would have enjoyed the pleasure of a King Zhou.
Gu Jinzhou’s flawless, handsome face remained calm and detached, devoid of any extra emotion, save for the bone-chilling coldness in his eyes whenever he looked at someone. He tossed a card out casually, his white shirt sleeves rolled up, his refined, long-fingered hands resting lazily on the table, exuding an aura of silent nobility and arrogance.
Su Ruanruan felt that Gu Jinzhou was somewhat like a stranger in this environment. She secretly tugged at his sleeve, but he gave her no response. Su Ruanruan was paralyzed by his extreme coldness. She had never imagined a world where Gu Jinzhou didn't want her; she had always believed that even if the sky fell, he would protect her.
"I’m going to wash my hands."
She rose and headed to the restroom. Standing before the sink, she rubbed her hands together unconsciously. How long would he stay angry? His silent, expressionless demeanor was terrifying. She finally understood why even his right-hand man, Secretary Jin, would complain that Gu Jinzhou was a Great Demon King.
"Ruanruan."
Hearing a strange man’s voice in the women’s restroom, Su Ruanruan trembled.
Tang Enshan’s eyes were filled with obsession. "Don’t be afraid. I won't hurt you. I like you very much. Since President Gu keeps ignoring you, I’ll pay attention to you. You’re so beautiful and young; don’t you find it monotonous to have only one man? Don’t let my age fool you; I have a knack for conquering women. You’ll see once you try."
As he spoke, he began to unbuckle his belt.
"Ahhh—!"
Almost the exact moment the scream rang out, Gu Jinzhou rushed in. A few seconds later, the man’s agonizing wails filled the air.
"Oh no, that’s Old Tang’s voice!"
"His lecherous habits must have kicked in again."
"It’s over, he’s in huge trouble!"
In the blood-stained restroom, Su Ruanruan stood like a lifeless, beautiful puppet, held tightly in Gu Jinzhou’s arms, clearly frightened out of her wits. Tang Enshan lay on the floor, his limbs twisted, his head pinned under the man’s leather shoe, blood seeping out from beneath him as he lay dying.
No one dared to intervene, fearing they would be next. How many could withstand the thunderous fury of the Crown Prince of the Gu family?
After dropping Mu Xin'er off at home, Gu Fengyan returned to the Imperial Seal, feeling uneasy. Seeing the scene, he quickly intervened: "Jinzhou, Tang Enshan will face severe punishment; there’s no need to dirty your hands. Leave him to me; he will never appear before you or Ruanruan again in this lifetime."
Gu Jinzhou’s face was so dark it seemed as though ink could be wrung from it. A voice of extreme, ruthless cruelty spilled from his throat: "I want his life."
Su Ruanruan’s lashes fluttered. She grabbed Gu Jinzhou’s wrist, burying her damp, pale face in his chest, and murmured, "I’m hungry... Gu Jinzhou, I want to eat the sweet and sour pork ribs you make."
Gu Jinzhou carried the delicate, petite girl away, and the terrifying, oppressive atmosphere vanished instantly. Everyone let out a deep sigh of relief. Gu Fengyan ordered his bodyguards to take Tang Enshan away; while he wouldn't kill him, he would certainly ensure he suffered.
-
At the Silver Lake Manor, Ruanruan, who had been a beautiful puppet at the Imperial Seal, was now sitting in the man’s broad, warm embrace, gnawing on a rib. Gu Jinzhou had strictly required her to follow proper etiquette, never allowing her to eat ribs with her hands, but today was an exception.
