Chapter 12: The Tide of Corpse Mites Strikes!

“If we hadn’t been drained earlier, Brother and I could take on this guy. But now, it’s no use—my inner strength is almost gone; I’m afraid I can’t hold out against this creature.”

“Alright! Then we won’t—”

“Help!!!”

Before Third Uncle could finish speaking, A Ning let out a piercing scream, putting them instantly on high alert.

Their expressions shifted drastically when they saw countless corpse mites pouring out from the surrounding caves, swarming like a tidal wave and completely encircling them!

There was nowhere to run now, except the main tomb chamber beneath their feet.

“A Ning, be careful!” Tianzhen brandished a dagger and was about to rush forward to save her, but the corpse mites blocked his path.

“Use fire!” Wu Yu shouted, and Panzi quickly set all their belongings ablaze. Then, glancing up at the dozen-meter-wide pit overhead, he shouted, “This way!”

As he spoke, he grabbed a rope and, using the Nine-Headed Hydra cypress, had already fashioned a rope ladder.

“Quite the talent!” Even Wu Yu nodded in approval as he looked at Panzi. It was truly a pity that Panzi had died.

“Brother! Little Bro!” Wu Tianzhen looked stubbornly at the two men, unwilling to abandon A Ning here.

“I’ll handle it!” Brother leapt forward, blood dripping from his palm once again, forcing the corpse mites to part and clear a path.

He grabbed A Ning, slashed the rope to cut it, and tossed it to Wu Yu in the distance.

“What a hassle!” Wu Yu shook his head; he cared little whether A Ning lived or died.

Taking A Ning, he then passed her to Wu Tianzhen.

A Ning, noticing the two men’s indifference toward her, suddenly felt a flicker of delusion about her own charm.

“Move quickly!” Third Uncle had climbed several meters and shouted sternly down at the group.

He wasn’t worried about Wu Yu and Brother, but Wu Tianzhen was no match for them in agility.

Meanwhile, Panzi was struggling to support Da Kui, slowing their pace considerably.

“Same as before, you go set up the second line of defense,” Wu Yu instructed, then sat beneath a tree and began to play the ancient zither.

But this time, under his touch, the seven strings emitted strange, visible waves of energy. The music sounded haunting and unsettling, stirring a chaotic desire for slaughter in the air.

The corpse mites on the ground, disturbed by the eerie melody, suddenly began spinning in place, turning on each other in a frenzy.

For a moment, the wave of corpse mites was stalled, though the music also affected Wu Tianzhen and the others somewhat.

Brother, quick-eyed, noticed Tianzhen’s eyes turning red and hastily tore a piece of cloth to plug his ears.

“Everyone, block your ears and climb up quickly!” Brother urged.

Stopping midway on the tree trunk, he doused the area around him with Kirin’s blood, hoping to prevent the corpse mites from climbing up when they arrived.

The others breathed a sigh of relief.

With only a third left to climb, a strange buzzing sound suddenly arose.

The corpse mites under Wu Yu’s control ceased their attack but did not fully regain awareness, standing motionless.

Taking advantage of this pause, the other corpse mites ravenously devoured these so-called “traitors” before charging again toward Wu Yu.

Though small, Wu Yu sensed the anger and greed burning in their eyes.

“They’ve taken themselves for a feast!” Wu Yu muttered with a wry smile, his fingers blurring over the zither strings.

The haunting melody grew sharper and more sinister, turning many corpse mites against each other.

But then, from afar, a red corpse mite with wings slowly emerged.

About half the size of a basketball, it differed from the others with sharper mandibles and claws, its wings beating with a harsh buzzing sound.

Not fast, but highly agile in midair, it darted left and right.

“The Corpse Mite King!” Wu Yu exclaimed, no longer hesitating.

Sheathing his zither, he sprang upward without needing the rope.

With the Corpse Mite King’s appearance, his control over the other mites was meaningless.

Sure enough, the corpse mites stopped in place again, indifferent, and were devoured by others once more.

“Brother, hurry! The Corpse Mite King is here!” Wu Yu called from halfway up the tree.

“Move!” Brother’s eyes sharpened; he no longer hesitated.

His Kirin’s blood had limited effect on the Corpse Mite King. If it was relentless, the swarm could break through their blockade.

However, the others were far slower than the two of them, needing more time to climb out.

At that moment, the Nine-Headed Hydra cypress finally lost patience.

After waiting so long for a chance, how could it continue defending?

Suddenly, countless vines and leaves seemed to spring to life, fiercely attacking those climbing.

It seemed to recognize that Brother and Wu Yu were formidable and deliberately avoided them.

“Heh! This thing even knows how to pick on the weak!” Fatty cursed loudly upon seeing this.

Securing himself, he began firing his gun, though bullets barely affected the Nine-Headed Hydra cypress.

“Big nephew, hurry up!” Third Uncle looked back at Wu Tianzhen, then stopped to secure himself and cover the others.

“Master Third!” Panzi’s face turned grim.

“Take Da Kui up!” Wu Sanshu shouted fiercely, ordering Panzi to ascend and support them.

“Brother, I’ll help them. I can’t handle these corpse mites,” Wu Yu said.

“Leave it to me.” Brother nodded, then leapt down to the ground.

Wielding his black-gold ancient blade, he sliced through the corpse mites with a fierce, uncanny sword technique—like a meat grinder, nothing survived where he passed.

Within Brother’s clothing, the Kirin tattoo slowly revealed itself.

The Kirin stepped through flames, roaring skyward!

His eyes shimmered with a faint dark glow, as if awakening.

With each swing of the black-gold blade, the Kirin tattoo surged, racing over Brother’s body like a living spirit.

Oddly, Wu Yu, still in the tree, felt a sharp sting on his back and frowned.

“The attraction and repulsion of bloodlines,” the system’s voice reminded him. “Don’t forget, the Kirin’s bloodline naturally suppresses these creatures! That’s why you agreed to partially unlock your bloodline’s shackles. With him nearby, your curse is relatively subdued.”

“Now that you mention it, I envy the Kirin bloodline,” Wu Yu sighed.

To put it plainly, Brother’s bloodline was like a bug—an unfair advantage.

Even in this world, transformed by the system, it remained top-tier.

At that thought, how could Wu Yu not feel envious?
