Chapter 33: The Young Man's Promise!
Chapter 33: The Young Master’s Promise!
“Are we almost there?” Wu Tianzhen asked, but to his surprise, he wasn’t as excited as he had imagined. Instead, he looked at A Ning with concern. “Your body isn’t ready for diving yet!”
The Fatty was at a loss for words upon seeing Wu Tianzhen’s reaction.
“Let’s just go home then, forget about Third Uncle!” Wu Yu teased with a grin. “Truly, it’s a case of falling for a beauty and losing one’s way—no more morning court sessions for the king!”
“Don’t mix things up, little brother!” Wu Tianzhen’s face flushed red. “Based on my previous calculations, if we head west from here for another three hundred nautical miles, we should reach the location of that sunken ship.”
“Enough talk of sunken ships and underwater tombs!” The Fatty scoffed. “What are we waiting for? I’ll get the gear ready and dive right in!”
“Let’s go. I’m coming too. Looking at those two gives me goosebumps!” Wu Yu shook his head but couldn’t help smiling at the young master. “So, how about it? Want to come along?”
“Alright, alright. I’m tired of being the third wheel anyway.” The young master laughed broadly and followed suit.
“What’s the matter? You don’t seem very enthusiastic,” Wu Yu said oddly, eyeing the Fatty in front.
“No, I’m fine,” the young master replied, slipping back into his usual detached demeanor when no one was paying attention.
“Really? Are you jealous that Tianzhen has a girlfriend now?” Wu Yu slapped his forehead, suddenly struck by a thought about the young master and Wu Tianzhen’s story—or rather, their history.
That must be it, he mused, nodding thoughtfully as his mind drifted elsewhere.
“You always seem to be thinking about something bad,” the young master squinted at Wu Yu. “The murderous aura on you has vanished.”
“But strangely, there’s still a force inside you that doesn’t belong, holding you back.”
“Exactly!” Wu Yu pondered for a moment, then looked at the young master. “My mother is a Mountain Mover Daoist.”
“Mountain Mover Daoist?” The young master was stunned upon hearing this, a flicker of realization and shock in his eyes.
He had heard of the Mountain Mover Daoist before and now understood the nature of that force within Wu Yu. What surprised him more was that Wu Yu carried such a lineage. At this point, few things could still shock the young master. “So the curse of the Mountain Mover Daoist is real?”
“Obviously!” Wu Yu nodded. “Truly the bloodline of the Qilin—heavenly auspices indeed, able to suppress even the curse of the Queen of Jingjue!”
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you!” The young master suddenly looked at Wu Yu with utmost seriousness.
“Why?” Wu Yu was slightly taken aback. He had always trusted deals more than mysterious acts of assistance.
But if it was the young master, he could choose to believe him. For his promise was one of the rare things in this world worth trusting and entrusting.
“I don’t know,” the young master answered enigmatically as usual. “I feel that by helping you, I might find my memories and my past.”
“Good!” Wu Yu nodded. “Then I’ll help you find the memories you seek!” He smiled. “Speaking of which, besides you, I know another odd one. She’s also searching for her memories and her family. When there’s time, I’ll introduce you to her.”
“She’s a formidable swordswoman! You two might get along well.”
“Great!” The young master showed a rare flicker of interest upon hearing this.
Soon, they reached the spot where Third Uncle’s ship’s signal disappeared. Nothing was visible on the surface, so the only option was to dive.
After putting on their diving gear, they plunged into the water. Tianzhen, initially worried about Wu Yu’s musical box, was surprised to see it unaffected by the water and grew curious.
Seeing that everyone was good swimmers, they signaled to continue descending. As they went deeper, visibility dropped until darkness enveloped them, pierced only by the beams from their flashlights.
At this point, they had reached a depth of a hundred meters, but there were still no clues. Wu Yu frowned as he looked at some floating debris.
After more than an hour, they surfaced. Wu Yu spoke, “There’s a volcano beneath us. I saw a little volcanic ash drifting up. But the volcano’s location must be very deep. I hope we’re not this unlucky!”
“No way, this complicated?” The Fatty’s face twitched involuntarily.
“A volcano? That can’t be!” A Ning checked the latest nautical and satellite maps. “There’s no record of any active volcano nearby.”
Wu Yu shrugged, saying nothing further, leaving belief up to others.
“Let’s rest for a bit, then search again. If we don’t find anything before afternoon, we’ll head straight to the spot I calculated and enter the wreck to look for clues,” Tianzhen said.
Everyone nodded. After regaining their strength, they dove again. After four rounds, Wu Tianzhen grew disheartened. “Little brother, do you think Third Uncle is really in trouble?”
“Don’t worry. Third Uncle is a crafty old fox. Even if his other skills aren’t great, no one can out-escape him!” Wu Yu smiled. “Besides, don’t forget the thing I gave him at the old house. With that, it’s not just foolproof—our chances have at least doubled.”
“Hmm.” Tianzhen breathed easier hearing this. Whether it was the comfort or not, tonight he could finally sleep peacefully.
The next morning, after breakfast and before diving again, the ship’s captain approached with a grim face. “I have bad news.”
“Since midnight, after we arrived in this area, all positioning equipment has failed, and electronic devices have lost about seventy percent of their functionality. But once we leave this roughly ten-kilometer sea zone, everything returns to normal.”
“Also, the radar sometimes detects many lifeforms beneath us, but they aren’t fish. Then suddenly, they all vanish. This phenomenon happens as soon as we enter this strange sea zone. You should prepare yourselves mentally before diving.”
Instead of fear, the group’s eyes brightened upon hearing this.
They all knew that the stranger the place, the more likely they had found the right spot.
But clearly, the path ahead wouldn’t be easy.
“Check your weapons!” A Ning’s men distributed arms. In the deep sea, firearms were less effective; crossbows and arrows worked better.
They tested the walkie-talkies again, and as the captain said, interference was severe. It would only worsen at depth.
“In that case, everyone stay close!” Wu Yu said, but his gaze lingered on Tianzhen.
“I got it, little brother. I’ll stick right behind you,” Tianzhen quickly nodded, then looked at A Ning. “You too, A Ning. Stay close to my little brother. That’s our best protection.”
“Pfft…” The Fatty couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene.
If nothing unexpected happened, they could roughly guarantee reaching the halfway point by midnight. Everyone was encouraged to bookmark and keep following. The 500 mark was just a little way off, a day later than expected. Keep going, everyone!
So far, the book hasn’t received recommendations, and the final outcome is uncertain, but I will strive to finish it. Lastly, many thanks to the great supporter Dream·Reaper’s Sky, who has continuously gifted monthly tickets and recommendations since this book began... Truly overwhelming gratitude!
