Chapter 16: Not Too Picky
“Mommy, can you just calm down? Now that we finally have a stable source of income and no longer need Uncle Charles’s support, can you show a little backbone? So what if he glanced at you? Haven’t you ever seen a handsome man before? Why are you so scared?”
Back home, Yu Jin honestly confessed everything, only to be scolded by Fire.
“He probably doesn’t even know you’re his secretary. If you panic like that, you’ll just give him something to hold over you!”
“Really?” Yu Jin asked timidly.
She felt like a little white rabbit about to be devoured by a big bad wolf.
“Of course it’s true! Otherwise, if he recognized you, do you think you’d still be sitting here watching soap operas in one piece?” Fire shrugged helplessly, eyes fixed on the TV.
Yu Jin wanted to argue but suddenly her phone rang.
It was already after work; why was Secretary Gu calling her?
“Documents? Which floor? Okay, I’ll bring them over right away!” She hung up hastily, no longer able to hide her anxiety. She kissed the little one on the forehead and rushed out like a gust of wind.
“Mommy, where are you going?”
“Secretary Gu asked me to deliver some documents to the Wan Zi Qian Hong building. I’ll be back soon!”
...
Yu Jin stood at the entrance of Wan Zi Qian Hong, clutching the documents, waiting and waiting but Secretary Gu didn’t come out. She called again to urge him.
“I’m tied up here; just bring them in. I’m in the XX private room.” The other end was noisy—it seemed he really was stuck at some social engagement.
After negotiating with two security guards at the door, Yu Jin cautiously entered with the document folder.
When she found the private room Secretary Gu mentioned, she suddenly froze.
Could Dongfang She be inside?
Heavens! How hadn’t she thought of this? Secretary Gu was the chief secretary; coming out so late to discuss business must mean she was there with Dongfang She!
A sudden sense of doom washed over her; her scalp tingled as she stood frozen at the door, too afraid to step in.
Just then, the door to the private room opened. Dongfang She was about to answer a call but saw someone bowing their head nervously at the entrance. He ended the call and bent slightly.
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
She was dressed completely out of place, looking as if disaster had struck.
Yu Jin was startled, utterly doomed—she actually heard Dongfang She’s voice!
Calm down. As the baby said, if he really recognized you, he would have torn you apart long ago. There’s no way he’d wait this long without making a move.
Shaking off the useless thoughts, she forced a formal smile. But when she lifted her head, the angle was just right—and she accidentally brushed her lips against Dongfang She’s!
Both stared wide-eyed in disbelief. Yu Jin was petrified, while Dongfang She, a master of romance, caught her waist as she tried to retreat and deepened the kiss.
Her scent was familiar and sweet. He had intended only a light taste but lost control entirely, giving her a passionate French kiss.
The intense kiss took her breath away. When they parted, Yu Jin was gasping, too stunned even to curse him.
“I’m not very picky about women who throw themselves at me,” Dongfang She said, licking his lips with an elegant smile, utterly charming.
Yu Jin: “...” What a scoundrel.
Just then, Secretary Gu came out and happened to witness the scene, a mischievous smile playing at the corner of his mouth. “Finally showed up. Got the documents?”
Snapping out of her daze, Yu Jin blushed deeply and handed him the folder. “Here they are.”
