Chapter 131: The Lucky One
Wen Jingxing paused as he reached to roll up the car window. Seeing this, the young girl quickly handed him her phone.
Wen Jingxing took a glance, his expression remaining indifferent, but he said, "Transfer it to me via Bluetooth."
"Okay!"
The photo was transferred quickly, and the girl departed.
Song Wanning then asked, "What is it? Why so mysterious?"
The corners of Wen Jingxing's mouth curled slightly. After silently setting the newly received photo as his wallpaper, he locked his phone and asked, "Guess?"
Because of the angle, Song Wanning had not seen what the girl showed him. She replied subconsciously, "I won't guess." She wasn't about to give in to curiosity.
Wen Jingxing chuckled to himself, "You said it." He then started the car and drove off.
Behind them, Shen Yue curiously poked her head out, having observed the entire interaction. Yet, she remained clueless. She speculated that the girl must have thought that getting into Wen Jingxing's car meant she could flirt with him—completely unaware of her own standing.
Seeing Wen Jingxing's car pull away, she quickly retracted her head and said to the program's driver, "Let's go, let's follow Jiang Mingzhao."
Since Jiang Mingzhao wanted to follow Song Wanning but absolutely refused to sit with Shen Yue, he had continued to latch onto Cheng Mu’s car. However, Shen Yue was single-mindedly determined to follow Jiang Mingzhao. Since she couldn't drive herself and felt too embarrassed to ask for a ride in Wen Jingxing’s car, she had sought out Li Weiwei to arrange a separate driver for her.
Jiang Mingzhao was extremely annoyed when he found out. He couldn't go home recently; his parents were so desperate for him to find a partner that they would accept anyone, even a man. He couldn't understand his parents' liberal mindset, but he knew that if he brought Shen Yue home and they found out a girl was chasing him so persistently, they would definitely try to force them together.
In the car, Cheng Mu said, "Mr. Jiang, let me take you home first."
Jiang Mingzhao pretended not to hear the first time. Cheng Mu said it again. Jiang Mingzhao played dead once more.
But Cheng Mu knew how to handle him. "Since Mr. Jiang won't say, I’ll assume you want to go back to the Jiang residence. I'm taking you there now."
"No, no, don't!" Jiang Mingzhao quickly interjected. "I want to go to Wen Jingxing’s place."
"It’s getting late. Why go to the boss's house instead of your own?"
Jiang Mingzhao made up a random excuse: "Wen Jingxing promised to have me over as a guest."
"You could come during the day tomorrow."
"No, I want to see it tonight."
"Uh..."
In the end, Cheng Mu couldn't sway Jiang Mingzhao, so he followed Wen Jingxing's car back to the Fanjing Garden complex.
As soon as Song Wanning stepped out of the car and saw the three vehicles following behind, her mouth twitched involuntarily. "Why did they all follow us?"
"I have no idea." Wen Jingxing got out first and opened the door for Song Wanning.
The live broadcast had ended, and Song Wanning had intended to lounge around once she got back. Looking at the scene now, that seemed unlikely.
As soon as Jiang Mingzhao got out, he dragged a suitcase with him. Cheng Mu frowned and said, "Mr. Jiang, you can leave your luggage in the car. I will take good care of it for you."
"No need. I feel more at ease keeping an eye on it myself."
Cheng Mu twitched his lip. Why didn't he say that when they went to the tea party? Once inside the villa, Jiang Mingzhao tossed his luggage into some obscure corner, so well-hidden that even Cheng Mu couldn't find it.
Jiang Mingzhao didn't stand on ceremony at Wen Jingxing’s home. Since Wen Jingxing said he was free to look around, he really did explore everywhere, leaving even Shen Yue trailing behind.
By 7:00 PM, Wen Jingxing issued an eviction order, telling Shen Yue to leave. Shen Yue refused, insisting she wanted to leave with Jiang Mingzhao. But Jiang Mingzhao was being deliberately difficult. He secretly sent a message to Song Wanning for help. He was clever enough to realize that Song Wanning disliked Shen Yue and might be willing to assist him.
Jiang Mingzhao was thrilled.
Jiang Mingzhao: [Wanning, Wanning, help! Reply quickly!]
Jiang Mingzhao: [Tell Shen Yue that I’ve already left and she shouldn't look for me. If she asks where I went, just say I went back to my apartment. If she asks where the apartment is, just say you don't know.]
Song Wanning was sipping hot tea when she received the message. She was closing her eyes, savoring the fragrant tea, but her phone kept ringing incessantly. She lazily opened her eyes to see her phone held out in front of her. Looking up, she saw Auntie Li.
"Auntie Li? Thank you."
"You're welcome. These are freshly baked pastries. Have some, Miss Song. I'll come back for you when dinner is ready."
Auntie Li pushed the tray of pastries toward Song Wanning. They were fresh and still steaming. Song Wanning said, "You're so thoughtful, Auntie Li."
She then asked, "Where is Jingxing?"
When Auntie Li heard her ask about the young master, her eyes crinkled with joy. "The young master is in the study. He said if you need anything, Miss Song, you can go straight to him."
Song Wanning shook her head quickly. "No, nothing at all."
After they finished talking, Auntie Li left. Song Wanning finally opened her phone to see the string of emojis from Jiang Mingzhao. After reading his request, she didn't agree immediately: [Why should I help you?]
The question left Jiang Mingzhao stunned.
Jiang Mingzhao: [Consider it me owing you a huge favor! Please, just help me!]
Song Wanning: [Let me think about it...]
Jiang Mingzhao: [Don't think! This is absolutely a profitable deal!!!]
Song Wanning: [Fine.]
Jiang Mingzhao: [Thank you so much!!!]
Just as Song Wanning exited WeChat, her phone received a push notification from another platform. Because the headline looked familiar and eye-catching, she clicked on it subconsciously.
#All members of the reality show "Let's Fall in Love" are the luckiest people...#
The title was too long to read in full, so she clicked through. She thought it would be boring clips or perhaps some stroke of luck that happened to a guest during filming. But once inside, she realized it wasn't that simple.
The headline was followed by five bold characters: "Super Tornado."
Reading the news content, Song Wanning realized that shortly after they left Rong City by plane, a massive gale had struck. Because Li Weiwei had predicted a typhoon earlier, but the weather remained calm for several days, almost no one online had believed it.
Yet tonight, the typhoon had arrived suddenly—so fast and fierce that it caught everyone off guard. Many were amazed, never expecting a real tornado to occur.
To Song Wanning, however, this wasn't simple at all. Wasn't the typhoon supposed to arrive in three or four days? Why did it come early...
