Chapter Fifty-Six: Secretly Hiding Wine to Drink
The doorman led them all the way into the private room, and soon a server arrived to take their order. Wen Jingxing gestured for Song Waning to order, but she handed the menu to the uncle instead. The uncle's eyes widened in shock at the prices—how could a single dish cost several thousand yuan? Frightened, he hurriedly pushed the menu back to Song Waning.
Seeing that he wouldn’t order, Song Waning simply started making selections herself. She felt no pressure at all; after checking if either of them had any food restrictions, she just picked anything she’d never tried before. In the end, she ordered seven or eight dishes.
Though she didn’t have money at the moment, it didn’t matter. Once she finished the show, she’d be getting paid, and no matter how much Song Zijian disliked her, she was still his daughter, so he’d at least give her some living expenses. At the very least, she wouldn’t embarrass the Song family too much.
When the time came, she’d invite Wen Jingxing to a meal in return—just a friendly exchange, in her mind.
After she’d finished ordering, Wen Jingxing took the menu and added several more dishes. The uncle grew nervous. “There are only three of us. Isn’t that too much?”
“No, it’s just right,” Wen Jingxing replied.
When the food arrived, the uncle realized it really was just right. Rich people truly were peculiar; ordering food felt like buying a lottery ticket. For example, the meat dish before them was barely palm-sized, while the prawn in the center of the table had claws as big as his own hand.
When the food was served, the waiter also brought a bottle of wine, but Song Waning couldn’t read it—it was all in English. When the server asked if she wanted the bottle opened, she declined.
Wen Jingxing said, “Wasn’t this wine the reason you came here?”
“It was, but you can’t drink and drive,” Song Waning leaned toward Wen Jingxing, whispering in his ear, “Let’s sneak it back and drink it later—just the two of us.”
She didn’t know if the director would approve of such a thing, but she suspected Li Weiwei probably wouldn’t. After all, Li Weiwei would worry that drinking would leave everyone foggy-headed and delay the next day’s shoot.
That’s why Song Waning whispered to Wen Jingxing, not wanting the uncle or the cameraman to overhear. But both of them stared wide-eyed, curiosity and gossip written all over their faces.
In the end, however, they heard nothing.
They could only give up. What Song Waning didn’t know was that even if they had overheard, these two fervent “couple fans” would have supported them with hands and feet raised.
The meal was overall very pleasant, marred only by a minor flaw—just as they were leaving, Song Waning ran into Song Xin.
Song Xin, equally surprised to see her, quickly tried to shield the man beside her behind her back. Song Waning’s mouth twitched. Was this woman an idiot? The man was a head taller than her—there was no hiding him.
The man’s eyes were a deep green, his hair a dark brown curled into tight ringlets, almost like instant noodles. He had a hooked nose, thin lips, a narrow face with a sharp jawline—his looks had a certain androgynous beauty.
He was clearly a foreigner...
With her sharp eyes, Song Waning had just seen Song Xin holding his hand. That was a lot to take in at once...
No one in the family had ever heard of Song Xin dating, and her mother had always hoped she would marry into one of the wealthy Beijing families.
So why was Song Xin suddenly here at the villa? Was she here for a secret rendezvous?
But Song Xin was a minor character among minor characters; in the book, her description was so limited that Song Waning didn’t even know how her story ended.
“Sis... Sister, what are you doing here?” Song Xin’s gaze darted to Wen Jingxing; she couldn’t bring herself to call him “brother-in-law.”
“Mr. Wen, are you here for a meal as well?”
“Yes, we’ve already finished,” Wen Jingxing replied, instructing the doorman to bring the car around.
The doorman rushed off, and the man with Song Xin seemed quite interested in Mr. Wen. He whispered in Song Xin’s ear, “What’s your sister’s relationship to Mr. Wen?”
Song Xin didn’t want to answer. She pushed the man toward the restaurant, but he continued, “You must introduce me! I have some business I’d love to discuss with Mr. Wen.”
She was hoping to talk to Mr. Wen herself, to clarify her relationship with the man. But in the brief moment she was distracted, Wen Jingxing and his group had already left, leaving her with nothing but tail lights and exhaust fumes that made her frown.
In the car, the uncle asked, “That’s your sister, isn’t it? Is it really okay to just leave her behind like that?”
Song Waning smiled enigmatically. “Her? She’s busy falling in love—how could we interrupt that?”
“Oh... I see. Well, that makes sense.”
Much like tonight, having played the role of a thousand-watt lightbulb, the uncle couldn’t wait to hurry home. But Mr. Wen was so polite, insisting on driving him all the way.
The uncle thought to himself that with everything that had happened today, he could brag about it for the rest of his life. Mr. Wen! Who was that? The chairman of Wen Corporation, the country’s top conglomerate, with businesses in every field—Wen’s label was everywhere you looked.
And today, not only had Mr. Wen treated him to a meal, he’d personally driven him home.
The uncle decided on the spot to help Song Waning for the next two days as well. Only then could he boast freely, without any guilt.
By the time they dropped the uncle off and returned to the resort, it was already half past eight. Seeing it was getting late and knowing there would be some time needed to wrap up, Li Weiwei decided to let the guests go for the night and cancel the usual games.
However, there was still a live broadcast owed for the evening.
So, for the first time ever, the audience got a real glimpse into the guests’ lives after work.
Li Weiwei scheduled the stream for after dinner, when the guests would usually be playing games or enjoying the fruits of their labor. But tonight, there were no plans. Li Weiwei had no special requirements—everyone was free to do as they liked, as long as they showed their truest, most natural selves.
In the live broadcast chat, the audience waited eagerly, itching to see the most authentic sides of the guests.
Those in the know were ready for the stream; others, not knowing what to expect, were as excited as if they were about to watch a boxing match. The chat exploded with anticipation.
“Ah!! Can’t wait to see what Jiang Mingzhao is like in his daily life!”
“I wonder if after all that drama, Yun Ze still cares so much about Nan Yan~”
“Production team! As a competent show, you should know what the audience wants! Give us more scenes from the guests’ daily lives—there’s been so little in the main episodes.”
“Especially Wen Jingxing and Song Waning—once they go back to their little building, it’s like the cameras vanish...”
“Ugh, I’m so torn! Should I watch the second episode or the live stream?”
“Not like me—I’m watching both, no dilemma at all.”
“Stop talking, they’re here! The cameras are rolling!”
