Chapter 153: A Fall During the Escape

Jane An shuddered all over and turned her head to look at Song Wan Ning beside her.

Taking advantage of Jane’s moment of shock, before she could react, Song Wan Ning snatched the skirt from Jane’s hand, shook it out to show herself, and also to the viewers watching the live stream.

In the chat room, everyone exclaimed with excitement.

“Wow, what is this, a full-blown caught-in-the-act scene!”

“That skirt is exactly the same as the one from that day!”

“Could it be that Wan Ning was telling the truth all along?”

“Is the person above crazy? Why would Wan Ning lie? Jane An really isn’t a good person—I always felt she was two-faced.”

“You have to be careful with people like that. You can’t just accept things from anyone or you’ll get framed. Luckily, Wan Ning refused to take it in the end.”

“If it were me, after a few words from the other side, I probably wouldn’t have held out and would have accepted it. Wan Ning’s persistence is admirable.”

Jane, seeing the skirt snatched away, was only tense for a moment before quickly calming down. Wearing a hat, mask, and sunglasses, she thought to herself: no matter how crazy Song Wan Ning is, there’s no way she’d actually try to snatch her belongings in broad daylight, right?

With that thought, her confidence surged. She lowered her voice, not wanting too many people to hear, and said, “Who are you? Snatching someone’s things in broad daylight?”

Some viewers, seeing Jane’s confident tone, suddenly felt unsure.

“Could Song Wan Ning have mistaken someone?”

“Yeah, the other person sounds so fierce.”

“After all, she can’t be the only one who bought that skirt.”

“Stop talking nonsense. I believe Wan Ning wouldn’t make a mistake.”

Jane noticed Song Wan Ning staring at her, saying nothing and making no move. Her heart leapt with joy—great, her plan was working!

She muttered curses under her breath and said, “Why are there so many lunatics these days?”

As she spoke, she moved toward the elevator.

Song Wan Ning’s eyes darkened slightly as she caught Jane’s small movements.

“The lunatic here is probably you.”

Taking advantage of Jane’s momentary inattention, Song Wan Ning suddenly lunged forward, grabbed her collar, and with a swift pull, snatched off Jane’s sunglasses and mask.

Jane was horrified and cried out, “Ah! You crazy woman, you hurt me!”

Only then did she realize that Song Wan Ning’s camera was filming her. She hurried to cover her face, but it was already too late.

“Oh my god, it really is Jane An!”

“Jane An’s behavior is no different from that of a villain.”

“I actually thought she was nice before; I even had a bit of a crush on her.”

“Good thing Wan Ning isn’t friends with her—being around someone like that is disgusting!”

Just as the viewers were fervently condemning Jane An, the live stream suddenly went black.

“What a coincidence! Time’s up!”

“Don’t worry, the full footage will be out tonight. Just wait.”

“No way, I have to clear Wan Ning’s name online. There were so many people arguing with me before, saying Jane An was great and Wan Ning was ungrateful. It’s infuriating!”

Neither of the two involved knew yet that this incident would cause a new uproar online and trigger a chain reaction.

Knowing she was exposed, Jane just wanted to flee the scene quickly. She realized the skirt was now non-returnable and tried to run away without it.

Song Wan Ning had finally caught her red-handed and felt she owed it to herself not to let her off so easily.

Seeing Jane lift her leg to run, Song Wan Ning gave chase.

Jane, noticing Wan Ning following, sprinted even faster, not even waiting for the elevator but rushing toward the emergency exit hidden in the corner.

Gu Yan, seeing Song Wan Ning take off, had no choice but to follow.

“You two slow down, I’m barely keeping up!”

But neither of the two ahead slowed down; instead, they quickened their pace.

At the emergency exit door, Jane found she couldn’t unlock it no matter how much she twisted.

She frantically turned the doorknob with one hand while using the other to cover her face with her coat collar.

If Jane had used her head, she would have realized that running now was just fooling herself.

If she really wasn’t Jane An, why would she run?

Now that she was running and afraid of Song Wan Ning, it only proved even more that she was Jane An.

In desperation, Jane finally noticed a latch beneath the doorknob. She tried to turn it one way and heard a click. The door unlocked, and she hurried inside.

But Song Wan Ning had already caught up.

Panicked, Jane ignored the pitch-black darkness inside and charged ahead recklessly.

The result was predictable.

Unable to see the stairs clearly, she misstepped and fell.

“Ahhhhhhh!”

Only the empty corridor echoed with Jane’s screams.

Song Wan Ning stood at the emergency exit door, not following her inside.

Outside was the brightly lit clothing area, but inside was a pitch-black passageway.

A normal person bursting in suddenly would indeed be disoriented.

But Song Wan Ning’s eyesight was excellent. She quickly adjusted and saw a dark figure rolling down rapidly, hitting the opposite wall on the stair landing, bouncing back, and continuing to roll down.

It was like a character out of a cartoon, full of drama.

There were two reasons Song Wan Ning didn’t chase in.

The first was that she had sprinted hard moments ago and was now gasping for breath, feeling utterly exhausted and slightly lightheaded.

The second was simple: rolling down stairs that fast, Jane would have reached the next floor in about a second, and most people would be injured and unable to walk.

But Jane was no ordinary person. Song Wan Ning soon heard heavy, chaotic footsteps coming from below, all the way to the first floor.

She just raised an eyebrow.

This person’s vitality was incredible—falling like that and still able to run so fast.

Gu Yan ran over, panting, and seeing Song Wan Ning hadn’t followed, finally relaxed.

A sales clerk came over and stopped Song Wan Ning, saying, “Miss, this is an employee-only passage. If you have no business here, please don’t use this route. As for that customer…”

Song Wan Ning glanced at the sign that indeed read “Employee Passage — No Unauthorized Entry.”

She said, “Don’t worry, she’s already left.”

Meanwhile, Jane, ignoring her aching body, hastily emerged from the emergency passage, almost colliding with a service staff member opening the door.

If the staff hadn’t opened it, Jane wouldn’t have been able to get out. Instinctively, she snapped, “Are you crazy? Why are you blocking the way?”

Then she shoved the staff member’s shoulder hard and quickly left.

Lowering her hat, she sneaked into the restroom again, changed clothes, and finally came out.

The cameraman, who had been waiting beside her, said, “You were gone so long, did something happen? Do you want to see a doctor?”

He was just asking out of concern.
